The Walk

I walked into the unending dark,
heading for the only source of light.
I heard someone walking behind me,
another lost soul trying desperately to find his path.
The walk was familiar to me.....
like the one my friend had used....
steady....secure.....confident.
Light streamed from above us
and I turned to face my follower
but to only confront a memory.
My friend.
He was there...following me wherever I chose to lead us...
as always.
Forever by my side.
