Risk Assessment 3: Weighing the Profits
by Kata Avalon

Jim leaned against the bathroom door. His guide was busy in the kitchen, preparing for his commitment ceremony. Blair had been excited to hear of their decision to hold a commitment ceremony. Said he was happy Jim had found someone to love.

And he had. He had found someone he loved and trusted. So, why was he nervous? Why was he hiding in the bathroom like some nervous virgin bride?

Jim started to pace.

"Jim, you okay?"

Am I?

Blair opened the door. He saw his sentinel pacing nervously in the small bathroom.

"Are you ready for this?"

Jim stopped his pacing.

"Yes. Just .. afraid I'll screw it up, again."

"Do you love him?"

"Yes."

"Do you trust him?"

"Yes."

"Everything will be all right. Just let go of your fears and let yourself be happy."

Jim nodded. He still had the deer caught in the headlights look.

"I'll be getting everything ready. The guests should start arriving in half an hour." Blair turned and left the small room. His sentinel was on his own in this one.

"Jim?" Curly head popped back into the bathroom. "It's not too late to cancel if you're not sure."

Sure? About what?

Jim stared into the mirror.

I'm sure I love him. I'm sure I trust him. So, why am I nervous?

Am I ready to spend the rest of my life with him? To wake up next to him in ten years?

Yes.

Jim took a deep breath. Time to let go of his fears as Blair had said.

He heard his lover arriving. Blair directed him to the bathroom.

"Jim?"

Jim opened the door.

"Just nervous." He hugged the smaller man. "I love you, Rafe." He whispered.
