J\/B<\/p>\n<p>Title: Bad Ass<\/p>\n<p>Author: Patt<\/p>\n<p>Bad Ass<\/p>\n<p>By Patt<\/p>\n<p>Blair overheard Miller from traffic, in the break room say, \u201cSeriously, I was eating at the same restaurant as Ellison and let me tell you, he didn\u2019t look like such a \u2018bad ass\u2019 to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Henri asked, \u201cAre we talking about the same Jim Ellison?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Miller just smiled at the man that was going to defend his friend.\u00a0 \u201cI know you\u2019re his friend and everything, but he was all over that Sandburg cop and he didn\u2019t look tough at all. Quite the opposite, he looked like a fruit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy don\u2019t you tell him this to his face then?\u201d Henri dared. Henri thought about what was said and really wanted to ask, what kind of fruit, but didn\u2019t want to make this into a joke.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHell, I\u2019m not going to start a fight with him, I didn\u2019t say he couldn\u2019t punch me out, but he\u2019s still a fruit,\u201d Miller stated.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll right, enough about fruits.\u00a0 I need to get back to work and if I was you, I would stay away from Ellison.\u00a0 He wouldn\u2019t like hearing this.\u201d Henri grabbed his coffee and headed for the doorway.\u00a0 Blair tried to move quickly, but not quickly enough.\u00a0 Henri saw him standing there and Blair never thought about it, but Black people do blush.\u00a0 Not exactly the same way, but he blushed and Blair took off for the bullpen before Miller came walking out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t see how you can be so friendly with the guy, he\u2019s a fag,\u201d Miller whispered.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Brown frowned.\u00a0 \u201cIf you think this about him, why are you whispering?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike I said, he might be a fag, but he\u2019s a big fag,\u201d Miller said as he walked to the elevator smiling.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Blair was standing by the elevator when Miller came around the corner.\u00a0 He got on and Blair joined him.\u00a0 Blair had no idea what he was going to say, but he felt he had to say something in Jim\u2019s defense.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Miller looked at Sandburg and glared.\u00a0 \u201cWhat are you staring at, Sandburg?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before Blair even thought about anything he would say, he pulled back his fist and punched Miller as hard as he could, right in the mouth.\u00a0 Miller wasn\u2019t expecting that and the force from Blair\u2019s fist alone made the room spin as he slowly slid down the wall of the elevator and hit the floor.\u00a0 When the door opened on the next floor, Blair got out and walked away.\u00a0 He never said a word.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>++++++++++<\/p>\n<p>Blair sat down in the stairwell and tried to figure out what he was going to do.\u00a0 You just don\u2019t slug someone in the face in the station house.\u00a0 It just wasn\u2019t done, but yet, Blair had just done it.\u00a0 He finally got up, rubbing his sore, red knuckles and started walking up to Major Crimes again.\u00a0 He kept waiting for someone to find him and arrest him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He walked into the bullpen and everyone was buzzing with excitement about someone attacking Miller, from Traffic, in the elevator.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jim walked up and said, \u201cHey Chief, did you hear that Miller got taken down a few notches while on the elevator?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, I heard.\u00a0 What\u2019s the buzz?\u00a0 Who did it?\u201d Blair asked.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jim smiled at his partner and said, \u201cDudes not talking.\u00a0 You have to give him credit for not being a whiner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat are we working on today?\u201d Blair asked, changing the subject, totally.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jim said, \u201cThere is a ton of paperwork on your desk.\u00a0 It\u2019s calling your name.\u201d\u00a0 He laughed all the way over to their desks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re so funny, I forgot to laugh,\u201d Blair said as he sat down and started working on the first file, which was a pretty easy one to do.\u00a0 Before long, he was almost done and had forgotten what he had done earlier.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jim was talking on the phone with a lawyer about one of his clients that had been mistreated by Jim, when Blair\u2019s phone rang.\u00a0 He picked it up and said, \u201cSandburg.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There was deep breathing and then, \u201cI\u2019m going to kill you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jim hung up his phone and said, \u201cChief, keep that person on the line.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blair hated when Jim listened in to his phone calls.\u00a0 Today would have been a good day to have Jim home sick.\u00a0 Oh goody, now he had to worry about Jim and Miller.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Blair hung up the phone and said, \u201cHe hung up already.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you have any idea who it was?\u201d Jim asked.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it was a prank.\u00a0 It\u2019s probably Rafe and Brown, fucking around, Jim.\u00a0 Stop being so serious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jim looked at Blair and saw his red and swollen knuckles and knew immediately what Blair had done.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jim pulled his chair over next to Blair\u2019s and whispered, \u201cWhat in the hell did you do, Sandburg.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Whispering back, Blair said, \u201cDefending my honor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid he punch you first?\u201d Jim wondered.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, I hit him before I said a word.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t know it was even coming,\u201d Blair explained.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jim just shook his head and wondered what was going on.\u00a0 This wasn\u2019t like Blair at all. His non-violent Blair would never do this.\u00a0 He noticed Henri staring at Blair and knew that Henri knew something.<\/p>\n<p>Jim got up from his desk, strode over to Brown\u2019s desk and said, \u201cCould I see you in interrogation room one?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Henri Brown knew he was stuck between a rock and a hard place.\u00a0 So he did what he knew he had to do.\u00a0 He walked into interrogation room one and sat down and said, \u201cWhat\u2019s up, Ellison?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid Blair overhear something today that caused him to have a mental breakdown?\u201d Jim asked quite seriously.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh shit, so it was him that hit, Miller?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrown, answer me, did someone say something to upset Blair?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brown looked at the dirty table he was sitting at and wondered when it had been cleaned last.\u00a0 He was thinking of anything and everything except what Jim asked.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHenri\u2026 Answer me,\u201d Jim bellowed, this time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s no big deal.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know why Hairboy, got so crazy about it.\u00a0 Miller was talking about you and he said some things about you not being as tough as everyone thinks you are.\u00a0 He thinks Hairboy has made you soft.\u201d Brown starting making circles in the dust on the top of the table, rather then look at Jim at this moment in time. Then he wrote his name in the dust.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo it wasn\u2019t even something said about him?\u201d Jim asked. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo\u2026\u201d Brown started to get up.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jim shoved him back down.\u00a0 \u201cI don\u2019t think you\u2019re telling me everything.\u00a0 Tell me exactly what Miller said from the beginning of the conversation to the end.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brown had no choice but to tell him what was said.\u00a0 Jim blushed when he heard what Miller said, but soon got over that, with new anger towards his partner.\u00a0 Why had Blair punched him out over that?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor right now, could we keep this between us?\u201d Jim asked.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSounds good to me, I don\u2019t even want to repeat it again,\u201d Brown said as he got up and walked out of the room.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jim called out, \u201cHey Brown, could you send Sandburg in here?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSure.\u00a0 No problem.\u201d Brown was lying.\u00a0 It was a big fucking problem.\u00a0 Now Jim knew what people thought about him and he had Blair defending his honor over something that was said.\u00a0 There were going to be ugly words between the two partners, Henri could tell.<\/p>\n<p>When Henri walked into the bullpen, he went right over to Blair\u2019s desk and said, \u201cJim is waiting for you in interrogation room one.\u00a0 He wants to talk to you.\u00a0 I think I should tell you that I told him what Miller said.\u00a0 I wanted to give you a heads up on that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFuck\u2026 Couldn\u2019t you have made something up?\u00a0 Did you have to tell him what Miller said?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s waiting, Sandburg and he isn\u2019t in a waiting type of mood,\u201d Henri said as he walked towards his own desk.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShit, now I have to think up some story,\u201d Blair said under his breath.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Blair walked into interrogation room one and saw Jim looking out the window.\u00a0 \u201cSit down, Chief.\u00a0 I need to ask you a few things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blair did just that.\u00a0 He sat down at the same disgusting table and wondered the same thing as Henri had wondered. \/\/Do they ever clean this table or this room?\/\/ Then Blair saw Henri\u2019s initial\u2019s written in the dust and this made Blair smile.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGet the smile off your fucking face, Blair.\u00a0 This is serious.\u00a0 You\u2019re going to have to go into Simon\u2019s office and tell him you hit this man for no reason.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t you yell at me, Ellison.\u00a0 It might work with someone else, but it doesn\u2019t work with me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jim got closer to Blair and leaned down to look in Blair\u2019s eyes.\u00a0 \u201cHe\u2019s going to be shooting for you now.\u00a0 He\u2019s after you.\u00a0 And all because you didn\u2019t like the fact that someone thought I was gay?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe doesn\u2019t think you\u2019re gay, he knows it.\u00a0 Or at least in his mind he knows it.\u00a0 He said you weren\u2019t a bad ass anymore.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t let him think you were anything other then what you were yesterday,\u201d Blair admitted.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not worried about how he sees me, Chief.\u00a0 I could care less.\u00a0 What I don\u2019t understand is why you took such offense to me being called gay.\u00a0 I take it, it bothers you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said you were all over me.\u00a0 I\u2019m sure you weren\u2019t,\u201d Blair said as he drew his name in the dust this time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sorry if that bothers you that I touch you all the time and am all over you,\u201d Jim said quietly, not really giving Blair much to work with.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBack up, I was mad about what he said, not about us and how people see us.\u00a0 He said you weren\u2019t a bad ass anymore.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t have that. Gay people can be a bad ass too,\u201d Blair declared.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know you\u2019re going to have to go to Simon, right?\u201d Jim asked.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will right now.\u00a0 Doesn\u2019t mean I like Miller any more then I did two hours ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jim turned and walked out the door.\u00a0 Blair had a feeling he missed something in this conversation.\u00a0 Somehow, he felt it might have been somewhat important.\u00a0 Blair walked up to Simon\u2019s door and knocked.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCome in,\u201d Simon barked loudly enough for everyone to hear.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Blair walked in and stood before Simon\u2019s desk.\u00a0 \u201cSir, I have to report myself for hitting another officer of the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Simon was drinking some of his wonderful smelling coffee. As he took a drink,\u00a0 Blair said this, it went down wrong and Simon started choking on the hot liquid.<\/p>\n<p>Blair rushed around, pounded on Simon\u2019s back until Simon pushed him away as he started breathing correctly again and said, \u201cOh shit.\u00a0 You\u2019re the one who hit Miller, right?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, sir.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh stop with the sir, crap.\u00a0 Sit down and tell me what possessed you to hit another officer,\u201d Simon ordered.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Blair sat down and sighed.\u00a0 \u201cHe was telling Henri some lies about me and Jim.\u00a0 I\u2019m sick of the lies and people thinking that Jim isn\u2019t as tough anymore since I came on board.\u00a0 It\u2019s not like he became gay just because I work with him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course not.\u00a0 Jim has been gay for years.\u00a0 I don\u2019t understand why it troubled you so.\u00a0 Didn\u2019t you know he was gay?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blair opened his mouth to say something, shut it and opened it again. \u00a0\u201cWhat are you talking about? Jim isn\u2019t gay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you ask Jim about it?\u201d Simon wondered.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Blair stood up, looked out into the bullpen and saw his sad looking partner and realized what Simon said was true.\u00a0 How could he be his guide and not know that Jim was gay?\u00a0 Did Jim have a thing for him? \u201cI haven\u2019t asked him if he\u2019s gay because it doesn\u2019t matter.\u00a0 Miller said that Jim wasn\u2019t a bad ass anymore.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t let him think that Jim wasn\u2019t tough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo you thought by slugging Miller in the mouth, it would show him that Jim is a bad ass?\u201d Simon asked, almost smiling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you word it like that, it sounds so bad.\u00a0 He probably thinks that Jim can\u2019t take care of himself and I had to do it for him.\u00a0 God, no wonder Jim looked so upset.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith good reason, Sandburg.\u00a0 This is one of the dumbest things you\u2019ve ever done,\u201d Simon insisted.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI agree, sir.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m going to have to suspend you for three days without pay.\u00a0 Now go home and think about things and then talk to Jim when he gets home tonight.\u201d Simon stood up and walked Blair to the door. \u201cI\u2019ll take care of Miller, although you might consider going down and apologizing to him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll do that on my way out of the building.\u00a0 He\u2019ll probably knock my block off and I would deserve it.\u00a0 I\u2019m sorry I let you down, Simon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHush, now go take care of business and I\u2019ll see you in three days.\u201d Simon shoved Blair out of the door and closed it softly. \/\/Now I have to fill out paperwork. My favorite thing.\/\/<\/p>\n<p>Blair walked over to his desk and said, \u201cI got suspended, so I\u2019ll see you later.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was really dumb, Blair,\u201d Jim said quietly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know. It wasn\u2019t one of my better moments.\u00a0 Can I talk to you tonight?\u201d Blair asked.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll be home for dinner as usual.\u201d Jim turned and began typing into his computer and Blair knew there was a lot that needed to be fixed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>++++++++++<\/p>\n<p>Blair stopped on the second floor and looked for Miller.\u00a0 He saw him standing with a bunch of other cops.\u00a0 He walked up and said, \u201cMiller, I just wanted to apologize for hitting you this morning.\u00a0 It was a terrible thing to do and I had no right.\u00a0 I told my Captain and he suspended me for three days without pay.\u00a0 If you\u2019d like to take a swing at me, I would let you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Miller just stood there, not knowing what to say.\u00a0 He had told everyone on this floor that the guy took him off guard so he must have been huge.\u00a0 The guys standing around Miller started to laugh.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis pansy kicked your ass?\u201d Martin, a 20 year veteran asked.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t exactly kick his ass.\u00a0 I only hit him once and that was in the mouth,\u201d Blair admitted.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The laughter started again.\u00a0 Blair knew they were insulting him, but he couldn\u2019t afford any more days off.\u00a0 He turned and walked away.\u00a0 Miller jumped him and started hitting him from behind.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Blair didn\u2019t fight back, because he felt he owed this to Miller.\u00a0 Martin pulled Miller off of Blair and said, \u201cSandburg, you all right?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy the fuck are you asking the pansy if he\u2019s all right?\u201d Miller spat out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou attacked him without warning.\u00a0 He offered you a swing, but you attacked from behind.\u00a0 That\u2019s low even for you, Miller.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blair dusted himself off and walked to the stairway.\u00a0 Miller had gotten a few kidney punches in and Blair was feeling it already.\u00a0 Blair knew he deserved them and had no right to whine to himself.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>++++++++++<\/p>\n<p>Word spread quickly all over the station about what had happened.\u00a0 Jim wasn\u2019t happy to hear that Miller had jumped Blair.\u00a0 When he finished for the night he walked into Traffic and saw Miller standing there with a big fat lip.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Two other officers walked up and one of them said, \u201cIt\u2019s over and done with, Ellison.\u00a0 There is no need to be here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMiller, I just wanted you to know that I\u2019m going to check out my partner when I get home and see if he\u2019s hurt.\u00a0 If he is, I\u2019m kicking your ass tomorrow.\u00a0 I\u2019ll kick it so far up that you\u2019ll be shitting in your throat.\u201d Jim turned and walked away.\u00a0 No one said anything and Miller believed that Jim Ellison just might still be a bad ass.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>++++++++++<\/p>\n<p>Blair made a nice dinner, hoping that would make up for some of his stupidity.\u00a0 Now he knew that he had to apologize to Jim too.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When he heard Jim come in, he looked at his partner and saw a very tired and defeated man.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHey, man.\u00a0 Are you hungry?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, I\u2019m going to clean up and go to bed early,\u201d Jim said as he headed towards the bathroom.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJim, its 6:30, you can\u2019t go to bed now.\u00a0 You promised you\u2019d talk to me when you got home.\u00a0 I want to apologize to you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jim washed up and sat down at the table.\u00a0 \u201cFine, what do you want to say?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blair sat down in the chair next to him and held Jim\u2019s hand, even though Jim tried to pull it away.\u00a0 \u201cI think you\u2019re a bad ass and I always will.\u00a0 You\u2019re my bad ass. I\u2019m so sorry I reacted the way I did today.\u00a0 I\u2019m so sick of people saying you\u2019ve gone soft since I came on board.\u00a0 I want them to respect you as much as I do.\u00a0 I think I just got a little carried away.\u00a0 I apologized to Miller, by the way.\u00a0 It\u2019s all taken care of.\u00a0 I\u2019m really sorry, Jim, and it\u2019ll never happen again.\u00a0 If you forgive me, I then have one more thing to say.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jim smiled up at Blair and said, \u201cYou\u2019re forgiven.\u00a0 I know you were trying to defend my honor and it backfired.\u00a0 But it was the thought that counted.\u00a0 Now what do you need to say?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re fucking gay?\u00a0 Since when?\u00a0 Since you were young, college, army or last week?\u201d Blair asked.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince I was in high school.\u00a0 I was bi-sexual.\u00a0 I\u2019m comfortable with that term, so you can call me that too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJim, I have to tell you that I\u2019m a lousy, cop, friend and Guide.\u00a0 I never realized you were gay.\u00a0 How could that pass my gaydar?\u00a0 I\u2019m really good. Usually. Now one more question if you don\u2019t mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jim smiled at Blair and said, \u201cI didn\u2019t think it mattered, so I didn\u2019t mention it at all. What do you need to ask me now?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow would you like to go out on a date?
