Looking for Love

Summary: Jim is looking for love, but Blair insists they don’t need to. <\/p>\n
\u201cLove is not what I\u2019m looking for right now, Jim. In fact, I\u2019m happier without it. I want meaningless sex whenever I can get it and with whomever I can get it from,\u201d Blair confessed. <\/p>\n
Jim just stood there with his mouth gaping wide. \u201cChief, you can\u2019t honestly believe that, right?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, I believe it. I\u2019m happy this way. I don\u2019t worry about anyone trying to own me or boss me around, it\u2019s great,\u201d Blair explained. <\/p>\n
\u201cYou never want to find love?\u201d Jim asked. <\/p>\n
\u201cOh grow up, Jim. You thought you had love with Carolyn and look how that turned out. You thought you had love with Beverly, look how that turned out. Face it, we\u2019re better off with no one and just a lot of nobody\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI screwed up my marriage, Chief. So let\u2019s not blame Carolyn on that one. I wasn\u2019t in love with Beverly. I still think that some day we might find someone that we want to settle down with,\u201d Jim assured Blair. <\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re such a dreamer, Jim. So how is your dating life right now?\u201d Blair wondered. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not seeing anyone at this exact time. That doesn\u2019t mean I won\u2019t be in a week or two. You never know who could be waiting around the corner for you. This person could love you as much as you love them. I believe this,\u201d Jim admitted. <\/p>\n
\u201cStop dating felons then,\u201d Blair teased. <\/p>\n
\u201cI have, haven\u2019t you noticed?\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve noticed that I haven\u2019t seen anyone in your company for months now. What\u2019s going on, Jim?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m waiting for someone special. If I believe it enough, it will happen,\u201d Jim said. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhat kind of special?\u201d Blair asked. <\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019ll just make fun of me, so I\u2019m keeping it to myself,\u201d Jim stated. <\/p>\n
Blair smiled and said, \u201cCome on, share. Then I\u2019ll share something with you.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to find someone that watches the Jags as much as I do and wouldn\u2019t mind staying home on the nights they play so we can see the game,\u201d Jim said. <\/p>\n
\u201cOh that\u2019s a good one, but I doubt that you\u2019ll find her. I\u2019ve never met a woman who likes basketball better then sex or going out,\u201d Blair said. <\/p>\n
\u201cMaybe I\u2019ll look for a him. There has to be a her or a him out there that would work for me,\u201d Jim suggested. <\/p>\n
\u201cJim, you don\u2019t just switch because of the Jags,\u201d Blair reminded him. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m keeping an open mind, Chief.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat else?\u201d Blair inquired. <\/p>\n
\u201cI want to find someone that doesn\u2019t mind that I get shot at for a living. There\u2019s got to be someone out there, right?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cRight,\u201d Blair teased. <\/p>\n
\u201cI want her to be able to cook and let me cook too, so that we share in the kitchen duties. I want to continue to do my part in the relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThat seems fair,\u201d Blair agreed. <\/p>\n
I\u2019d like to find someone that would like to learn how to change her own oil so that it\u2019s not always my job. It could be hers too,\u201d Jim said. <\/p>\n
\u201cOh good one, Jim. I like this very much.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI want someone that likes to talk a lot, because I\u2019m not such a big talker,\u201d Jim continued. <\/p>\n
\u201cThat shouldn\u2019t be hard, chick\u2019s love to talk.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI want her to be very smart. I don\u2019t like dumb chicks at all. The smarter, the better,\u201d Jim said. <\/p>\n
\u201cOh this is getting good. Describe her,\u201d Blair ordered. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019d like to find a woman shorter then me, long brown hair, preferably curly and not afraid to show how strong she is,\u201d Jim commented. <\/p>\n
Blair thought a moment and said, \u201cI don\u2019t know anyone like this.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI need her to like camping and hiking,\u201d Jim added. <\/p>\n
\u201cOh good one, man. Camping and hiking are a good addition. Any more?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cShe wouldn\u2019t be afraid to clean her own fish,\u201d Jim said. <\/p>\n
\u201cNow that\u2019s going to be tough. No one likes to do that. At least I\u2019ve never met anyone that did,\u201d Blair remarked. <\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t mind if she\u2019s a built smaller then some other women people might look at fondly.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWow, you\u2019re really putting a lot of though into this aren\u2019t you?\u201d Blair questioned. <\/p>\n
\u201cShe would have to be able to follow my loft rules. That\u2019s a given,\u201d Jim said trying not to smile. He doesn\u2019t even know I\u2019m describing him.<\/i><\/p>\n
\u201cNow that\u2019s a total turn off, man.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI like blue eyes,\u201d Jim said. <\/p>\n
\u201cReally? Not that many people you\u2019ve dated had blue eyes. Why are you changing the game plan?\u201d Blair asked. <\/p>\n
\u201cI want someone no one would ever suggest for me. There is nothing wrong with changing your game plan when it comes to love.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cJim, with all of those things listed, I don\u2019t\u2019 think you\u2019ll ever find anyone. Maybe you should try with one thing at a time and see if you can\u2019t train someone,\u201d Blair suggested. <\/p>\n
\u201cI want someone who doesn\u2019t need to be trained. I need someone to be able to read my moods no matter what. I want someone who will think of me before I do,\u201d Jim said. <\/p>\n
\u201cJim, I don\u2019t want to burst your bubble, man, but this person isn\u2019t out there. Believe me I\u2019ve been looking for a long while. That\u2019s why I decided to settle on lots of dates instead of looking for love.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s out there. I know it and I believe that she will come to me one of these days and she\u2019ll be just what I wanted,\u201d Jim said. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m exhausted. I\u2019ll talk to you tomorrow morning. That\u2019ll give me time to rest up for teasing you,\u201d Blair joked. <\/p>\n
\u201cGoodnight Chief,\u201d Jim called out softly as he started climbing the stairs to his room. <\/p>\n
Jim got undressed and walked down to the bathroom to brush his teeth and wash his face. He saw Blair walk out of the bathroom and into his bedroom. <\/p>\n
When Jim walked into the bathroom, he was surprised and happy. The sink was wiped down and the chrome polished. It looked just like Jim had cleaned it that day. When did Blair start paying such close attention?<\/i><\/p>\n
Once he was back upstairs he wished he could get up the nerve to talk to Blair about his feelings for him. But alas, Jim Ellison was gutless when it came to matters of the heart. <\/p>\n

Blair woke with a start and realized what he had been dreaming about. The woman that Jim fantasized about was him. Jim wanted geeky Blair Sandburg. Blair almost started to laugh, just because it was so unreal. He wondered if Jim knew.<\/p>\n
Blair went through the list and he met every single requirement. He said he was willing to try men. Maybe this was an accidental way to get into my heart. I know he\u2019s been with men before because I heard the rumors. Could this work? Or would it mess up our friendship?<\/i><\/p>\n
Blair got out of bed and walked to the stairway and decided he was going to talk to Jim about it. It was too important not to.<\/p>\n

Jim woke up hearing Blair coming up the stairs. Now what?<\/i><\/p>\n
Blair just stood beside Jim\u2019s bed and stared at him for the longest while. Finally, Jim asked, \u201cDo you have a problem, Chief?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought of someone that you wouldn\u2019t mind dating and getting serious about. Would you like to hear about him?\u201d Blair asked. <\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, I want to hear about him,\u201d Jim replied. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe wants to meet someone older then he is. That\u2019s you. He wants someone grumpy and moody a lot of the time. Oh man, that\u2019s also you. He wants to be able to watch Jags games whenever he wants to and doesn\u2019t care about going out on those nights. He doesn\u2019t mind that you\u2019re a cop. He\u2019s able to cook even better then you do and doesn\u2019t mind sharing the kitchen duties. He can change his own oil but wouldn\u2019t mind the company while he changed it. He talks a lot and he\u2019s pretty darn smart. He\u2019s shorter then you with curly brown hair and has blue eyes. He isn\u2019t afraid to show his own strength. He loves camping and hiking and knows how to clean the fish. He already knows most of the loft rules, so he wouldn\u2019t have to be trained. Are you interested in this guy?\u201d Blair joked. <\/p>\n
Jim pulled Blair down on the bed with him and said, \u201cWhat took you so long?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHey, I said I was pretty smart, not a genius or anything. It took a good sexy dream to bring me to my senses. So are you still looking for love?\u201d Blair inquired. <\/p>\n
\u201cNot any more, Chief. I found it. You told me I wouldn\u2019t find it, but I did. I should have made a bet with you or something,\u201d Jim kidded. <\/p>\n
\u201cHow about sleeping tonight, dating tomorrow night and then we can plan the rest of our lives?\u201d Blair suggested. <\/p>\n
\u201cSounds good to me. Are you warm enough in this bed?\u201d Jim asked. <\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re joking, right? I\u2019m downright hot, Ellison.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cGo to sleep Chief and we\u2019ll discuss everything tomorrow. Goodnight.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cGoodnight, Jim. I really, really like you,\u201d Blair stated. <\/p>\n
\u201cI love you too. Now go back to sleep,\u201d Jim ordered and both men did just that. <\/p>\n
