This is a very good story. It's simplem but insightful.
Think of all the trouble House could spare himself by just having his bad leg surgically removed -- no pain, no need for a cane after a while, free hands, no need for pain killers, no addictions, a fake or prostheiic leg that can be damaged but never will hurt again. If only he could see that he already lost a normal body, and that amputation is is a way to minimize the loss while accepting it at the same time. It would do him the world of good. He could have a baby with Cuddy maybe, if he wasn't an addict with a shortened lifespan.
