If Any Calm, a Calm Despair - notes
written July-August 2004

Written for the Remus Remix, on a drabble by Hikaru:
"I'm not afraid," he said, nestling his head further in her lap. "Not anymore, Molly."

"Shh," she whispered soothingly, tangling her fingers in his hair. "You don't have to tell me that, Remus." Her gaze was distant, distracted.

"I need to tell someone," he murmured, shifting his position so that he was staring up at her now. "No one else believes me."

She said nothing in response, only continued stroking his hair. After all, there were no words to respond with. Everyone else was pushing Remus to move on, be strong, let go; Molly just wanted him to be okay.

Couldn't have done it without Ellen and resonant. Title from Tennyson's "In Memoriam A.H.H." - section XI, line 16.
