If I had to narrow all of fanfic down to my single favorite classification, it would be plotty, dramatic, romantic, novel length, slashy AUs with a strong hurt/comfort element, lots of unresolved sexual tension, and way more story than porn. Make it well-written, with a strong, consistent point of view, and throw in some finely drawn original characters and a well-researched setting, and I'm in fic heaven.
So "Long Way Home" hit a very particular sweet spot for me. Wonderful story.
