"You don't understand," she said, determined. Miles was smiling, his
arms outstretched, ready to embrace her. Could she go through with it?
He was such a kind man. Such a sweet, decent man. She smiled faintly.
All the more reason, she supposed, to do what was right by him.

"What is it, darling?" he said, open, vulnerable.

Taking a deep breath, she charged. "Data didn't misunderstand. I want
the marriage called off. You know it's not right, Miles."

His eyes wide, not understanding.

"Miles... You're gay. I won't be your alibi."

He would cry, she thought. But ultimately, this was the right thing.
It was.
