The BLTS Archive - The Right One #6: The Right Night by Karahkwa (karahkwa@startrekmail.com) --- Disclaimer: All things Trek belong to Paramount. The situation is purely my own and I mean no copyright violations. No money is being made. --- Jake Sisko bounced his baby sister on his knee. Tiana was nearly four months old. She still managed to amaze him on a daily basis. She was a happy baby and even though Jake saw their father in nearly everything she did, he found he didn't miss him so much. Part of that he was sure was Julian Bashir. The doctor had been Jake's lover for exactly six months. Every day Jake found himself even more in love than before. It surprised him and yet he wouldn't have it any other way. Tiana giggled and Jake smiled. She was such a joy to be around. It was no wonder Kasidy hardly ever let anyone baby-sit. She had let Jake and Julian take her one night so she could have some pampering in Quark's holosuite. Kasidy had been… surprised when they'd told her about their relationship. But that had come more from the fact that she walked in on them necking on Jake's bed then anything else. She'd been more upset when they'd told her how long they'd been together. Apparently she was like Julian and thought that you didn't keep a relationship quiet for three months and certainly not six. Jake sighed. And Tiana copied the sound or at least tried to. He smiled but it quickly faded. He knew Julian saw their lack of a public relationship as a sign that Jake wasn't completely committed to him. How the man could think that after he'd told him he loved him, Jake didn't know. But he did. Jake smiled down at Tiana. "You know, what, little one. It's time I put those doubts to rest." --- Julian sighed as he sat at his desk. The last three hours had been hectic. For some reason every little scratch had to be treated. And he wasn't just exaggerating; he really had treated a couple scratches, three men who'd nicked themselves while shaving (he didn't know how it was possible with a sonic shaver but didn't ask), and several other minor injuries that he still shook his head at. He couldn't believe he'd been asked to look at Kira's shin from where she ran into the edge of her coffee table. It may have hurt like hell, but she hadn't even broken the skin. The universe was having an odd day; that's all he could say… "Dr. Bashir?" Julian looked up at his nurse. "Yes?" "There's a patient here you need to see." Julian nodded and rose. Hopefully this would be the last stupid case for today. He just wanted to go home and spend the evening with Jake. And Tiana since they were supposed to baby-sit. When Julian walked into the main room of the infirmary, he stopped dead in his tracks. Captain Benjamin Sisko sat on the diagnostic bed. --- Jake held up an outfit for Tiana to see. "Well, can you see me on Julian's arm in this?" The baby simply blew a slobber bubble and giggled when it popped. "You're no help," he sighed. Well what did he except? She was only four months old. He put the outfit back in the closet and looked at his selection. It was pitiful really. He wanted to look perfect for Julian tonight. "Bashir to Sisko." Jake's face lit up. "Julian. Hi, I was ju-" "Jake, you need to come to the Infirmary." He froze. Something was wrong. Kasidy… "Why? What's wrong?" "I'd prefer to tell you in person. Could you just come and bring Tiana?" "Julian…" "I promise I'll explain when you get here." Jake nodded and then realized Julian couldn't see him. "I'm on my way. Sisko out." As he spoke he picked up the baby and then grabbed her diaper bag. He raced out the door and headed for his favorite ‘lift. --- Julian waited patiently with Kasidy and Ben for his lover to arrive. Ben wanted to surprise Jake but when he'd heard how worried the younger man was, Julian had almost told him the truth. He hated when Jake worried. He got this little line between his eyes and… Jake raced in and looked immediately at Julian. All the older man could do was smile and gesture towards the bed where Ben sat. "Dad!" Julian smiled as Jake handed the baby to Kasidy and hugged Ben with a surprising fierceness. "I've missed you so much." "I missed you too, Jake." Julian smiled and then turned to give them some privacy… "Julian, wait. Come here." Jake held out his hand and Julian could help but take it… "Dad, I want to tell you something… Julian and I are…" "Together. I know. The Prophets let me watch over you." Jake smiled. "Then you don't mind if I spend tonight with him and let you have the time with Kasidy and Tiana?" "Of course n-" "Jake! What are you talking about? Tonight you're going to spend with your father." "Julian, it's our six month anniversary. I want to be with you tonight." "But your father-" "My father will be here in the morning. It won't be our anniversary tomorrow." Julian opened his mouth to protest and Jake kissed him. "That's the end of this discussion. We're celebrating tonight." Ben laughed at Julian's blush. "He got that command voice from me." --- Julian sat on his couch and waited. Jake had made him agree to celebrate when he felt awful that he was taking him away from Ben tonight. Still he'd been so adamant. *Breebop* Julian frowned. He wasn't expecting company and Jake had his access code. "Enter." Jake stepped through the door and Julian's breath caught in his throat. Jake was wearing a cream colored silk shirt and light chocolate pants. They accented his dark skin and eyes. "Jake, wha-" "Dr. Bashir, I have made reservations at (name) for two. Would you care to join me?" Julian shook his head. He couldn't believe it. After all this time… "You want us to go out… Together? As a couple?" Jake smiled. "It's about time, isn't it?" "Yeah… I just thought you'd want to spend our anniversary alone together." "We'll do that to but tonight I want everyone to know you're mine." Julian smiled. He'd felt the same way… But… "Would you mind if I changed? I want to look as good as you do." "Go ahead. Our reservation isn't for an hour." Julian stopped on his way through the door. "And what did you have planned for this hour?" "Oh, just a little neck in ‘lift, and at Quarks and wherever else we ended up." Julian smiled. "I'll have to hurry then…" Julian walked into his bedroom and started blowing out all of the candles. He'd planned on recreating their first time but if Jake finally wanted people to know… Julian sighed as he looked at the objects he'd placed on their pillows. His plans had been slightly ruined but he was determined to salvage them. He turned to his closet to find his sexiest shirt. He and Jake were coming home early. --- Julian and Jake necked in the ‘lift much to the eyebrow raising of the Vulcan science officer they shared it with. Jake nibbled on Julian's ear as they played Dabo in Quarks. They openly kissed on the Promenade while waiting for their table and held hands throughout their dinner. And they loved every minute of it. After dinner, Julian suggested they go back to his place and finish their evening. Jake smiled but shook his head. "I have one more thing planned for tonight." Julian groaned. "Jake-" "It won't take long, Julian. I just want to dance with you." The doctor sighed but let Jake take his hand and lead him to the holosuite where Vic Fontaine's lounge was running. They mingled a bit with the holocharacters, spoke for a few minutes with Dax and Kira both of who were present, and then finally Jake led them out onto the dance floor. Julian snuggled down into Jake's arms. He may have been the taller of the two but he liked it when Jake lead. Then he could let his hands do some creative moves. "Mmm. Have I ever told you how much I love dancing with you?" "Almost as much as you love me?" "Mmm hmm," Jake answered and pulled down his lover's head for a kiss. Julian moaned softly and opened his mouth so Jake could deepen the kiss. Neither noticed when the music stopped and everyone started watching them… "Mmm, Jake… take me home and to bed…" Julian wasn't sure how but the every next thing he was aware of was landing on his back with Jake on top of him. They kissed for a while and then Julian broke away. "Julian." "Jake, there's something I want to do first. Please. You had plans for tonight and so did I." "Okay. But hurry," the last was said in a growl as Jake nipped at Julian's ear. Julian rose and quickly lit the candles. He saw Jake smile when he recognized the scent. Then he had the computer play back their song on a continuous loop. And then he joined his lover once again on the bed. "Is that it?" Jake asked as he reached for his lover. "No." Julian pulled way and reached for the object on Jake's pillow. The other man's eyes grew big as he noticed it for the first time. Then he saw the other on Julian's pillow. "Jake Sisko, I love you. Will you marry me?" Julian held up the two wedding rings that he'd lain on their bed earlier that day. Jake threw himself at Julian and proceeded to kiss him until they were both breathless. Julian did manage a small laugh. "Is that a yes?" "Yes. I love you." And then Jake showed his fiancé just how much. --- The End
