They lay covered with a sheet. Their bodies
glistened with sweat, their hearts still pounded,
and their breath came in heavy gasps. "That was
wonderful," Kathryn Janeway spoke, as she placed
her head on her lover's chest, stroking the
muscles of his stomach. "I don't think I've ever
enjoyed it so much."

"I would have to agree with you," Chakotay spoke,
as he placed an arm around Kathryn and pulled her
closer to him. "I can't believe we denied
ourselves this for so long."

"I know, but we had our careers to think about and
a crew to get back to the Alpha Quadrant."

"I know." He smiled. "I guess that's why making
love to you is so much sweeter."

Kathryn laughed. "Yes, I guess so."

"Do you regret it?" he asked, afraid she might
answer no.

"No, no regrets." She smiled up at him. "Do you
have any? Do you regret ending your relationship
with Seven?"

"No, what Seven and I had was wonderful, but it
was destined to end."

Chakotay took her face into his hands and placed
his lips upon hers and began to kiss her deeply,
which renewed the fire that had consumed just a
few minutes before.

It was well into the morning before the two
finally fell into a deep sleep.
