counseling him," Megan Delaney said with a romantic sigh

"I heard it's an act, a cover for something."

"I heard Paris gave Chakotay his body in return for protection."

"I heard they've been lovers since the Maquis"

"I heard they're having a threesome with Kim."

"I heard Paris was raped in jail and Chakotay's trying to heal him."

"I heard it's to pay off Chakotay's life debt to Paris."

"I heard-"

A female voice interrupted the speaker, " And I heard the captain
promised to have anyone caught gossiping about Chakotay and Tom
cleaning Jefferies tubes until we reach the Alpha Quadrant."

Everyone turned to see B'Elanna Torres, standing arms crossed and
glaring at the group. With quickly muttered excuses they departed.

There was a chuckle and Tom and Chakotay emerged behind her. As usual
Chakotay had his arm wrapped protectively around Tom. Chakotay
regarded the fled crewmembers wryly.

"Maybe we should've just told them."

"Nah," Tom scoffed, "Their speculations are better than the truth.
Plus it's fun to see what they come up with." He looked at his love,
"Some of these people desperately need a hobby."
