Sure, you can see the growth of fandom spaces and how people are using them &#8211; but when it comes to the year in review, this is where you can see the real, tangible evidence of what&#8217;s been going on for the last year. \u00a0So without further ado, I present SquidgeWorld&#8217;s Year in Review based on what&#8217;s been read! \u00a0Please note this is graphics-heavy so I&#8217;ll attempt to hide behind a cut.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>For 2023, Harry Potter has de-throned N.C.I.S. as the most-read fandom in the archive. \u00a0But beyond that (Harry Potter holds 3 of the top 20 spaces) there are fandoms that didn&#8217;t even exist until this year that have run up the charts. \u00a0Fandoms like M\u00f3d\u00e0o Z\u01d4sh\u012b and The Untamed weren&#8217;t even a part of the archive on January 1st, 2023 &#8211; and yet readers were pretty voracious when it came to reading works in those fandoms:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-194 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.squidge.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/2023-Most-Read-Fandoms.png\" alt=\"The top 20 Fandoms from stories read on SquidgeWorld Archive in 2023.\" width=\"595\" height=\"339\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.squidge.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/2023-Most-Read-Fandoms.png 595w, https:\/\/www.squidge.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/2023-Most-Read-Fandoms-300x171.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 595px) 100vw, 595px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As with previous years, some of the most read relationships are either Jim Ellison\/Blair Sandburg from The Sentinel, or Gibbs\/DiNozzo from N.C.I.S. \u00a0However, there are a few Harry Potter and Star Wars relationships thrown in there, so there&#8217;s definitely room for growth!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-195 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.squidge.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/2023-Most-Read-Relationships.png\" alt=\"The top 20 relationships from stories read on SquidgeWorld Archive in 2023.\" width=\"474\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.squidge.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/2023-Most-Read-Relationships.png 474w, https:\/\/www.squidge.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/2023-Most-Read-Relationships-300x214.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When it comes to characters &#8211; Well doesn&#8217;t Snape take the cake? \u00a0He tops the chart for 2023, though Minerva McGonagall and a few other Harry Potter characters round out the most read characters of 2023. \u00a0As a matter of fact, Harry Potter characters take up nearly all of the top 20 spots!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-196 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.squidge.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/2023-Most-Read-Characters.png\" alt=\"The top 20 characters from stories read on SquidgeWorld from 2023.\" width=\"326\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.squidge.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/2023-Most-Read-Characters.png 326w, https:\/\/www.squidge.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/2023-Most-Read-Characters-291x300.png 291w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 326px) 100vw, 326px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And now we come to my personal favorite &#8211; the free form tags! \u00a0What were people looking to read in 2023? \u00a0Well, Angst and Alternate Universe were three of the top five! \u00a0Most of the tags listed were fandom independent, like First Time and Time Travel, but Harry Potter&#8217;s &#8220;post-Goblet of Fire&#8221; was in there &#8211; which makes sense from the most-read fandoms of 2023.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-197\" src=\"https:\/\/www.squidge.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/2023-Most-Read-Tags.png\" alt=\"The top 20 most-read freeform tags from SquidgeWorld stories in 2023.\" width=\"371\" height=\"340\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.squidge.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/2023-Most-Read-Tags.png 371w, https:\/\/www.squidge.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/2023-Most-Read-Tags-300x275.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 371px) 100vw, 371px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So that&#8217;s how 2023 went. \u00a0We shall see how this year shakes out to be! \u00a0Thanks to everyone who was part of SquidgeWorld.org and helped make these statistics come about, and thanks to everyone for being a part of Squidge.org!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have to say that this is probably my favorite thing about being a part of Squidge.org and all the various entities.
