I decided to write this story when a reader wrote and asked if I would write something longer. This isn't very long, but it is a lot longer than any story I've written before. Hopefully, this counts.

Harry looked up as Tom and B'Elanna walked into the mess hall together. He couldn't help but feel a pain in his heart. For a while there he thought that he and B'Elanna would wind up together. Then Tom and B'Elanna started dating. He wished he could be happy for his best friends, but he couldn't help but wish things had worked out differently. As they came toward him he put a smile on his face that he was sure they would notice was fake, but they were so caught up in each other they didn't seem to notice.

"Hi, Harry. What's for breakfast, and will it kill us? said Tom.

Harry frowned and said, "Better not let Neelix hear you say that, he would be hurt."

" Aw. . . Harry you know I'm joking," Tom replied.

Harry said he knew that, but Neelix might not. B'Elanna broke in then, and asked Harry if he was going to join them in the Holodeck later that night.

Harry thought about it and said no. He told them that he had some reports to catch up on and couldn't make it. The truth was though he just didn't want to watch them making loving faces at each other all night. He then excused himself and left them to their breakfasts. As he left he turned and looked back. Tom and B'Elanna were feeding each other and laughing.

---

Harry went to the turbo lift and then to the bridge. He was a little early for his shift, but the ensign there was quite content to be relieved early. Harry started to run some tests on the sensors when Tom walked in seconds before his shift started. Harry watched as Tom relieved the pilot at the Conn and slid into the chair. Harry glanced down at his panel and wished he didn't feel this way. Tom was his best friend and Harry wanted to be happy for him. Tom had gone through so much pain in his life and he deserved a little happiness. Just then the Captain came on the bridge and Harry didn't have anymore time to feel sorry for himself.

---

It turned out to be a very hectic day, what with being attacked by that ship and repairs that were necessary afterwards. Luckily, Tom had pulled off another of his flying miracles. Harry still had trouble, even after the past couple of years, believing just how good a pilot Tom was. Tom seemed to perform feats of magic at the Conn. Harry knew that Voyager wasn't designed to do some of the things Tom could make it do. Knowing Tom, he would want to celebrate this evening but Harry didn't feel like it. So, that night Harry stayed in his quarters practicing his music to avoid B'Elanna and Tom. He had dinner there also, so that there would be no chance of running into them and having them invite him to the Holodeck again.

Harry worked on a new piece of music that reminded him of B'Elanna. It was very fierce and passionate. Harry wished that passion could one day be directed in his way, but he realized if it ever did, it would mean that Tom would be hurt, and no matter what, Harry did not want to be the cause of Tom being hurt again.

Maybe, Tom will dump B'Elanna, thought Harry. After all, he's done it so many times before.

If Tom was the one who decided not to see B'Elanna, then he couldn't be upset if Harry picked up the pieces. At least if Harry allowed a decent amount of time to past before making his move.

Harry decided, Yes, if they break up, I'll wait until Tom starts dating again before trying to get B'Elanna to take me seriously.

So for the next several weeks Harry waited to see if he would get a second chance with B'Elanna or if he would wind up dancing at their wedding. Although he was betting on a break up, as he didn't think they made a good couple, he was surprised when the end came. Both Tom and B'Elanna seemed happy until the day they broke up. It came out of the blue when they told him that they weren't going to be seeing each other anymore. There were no fights or anything to indicate they weren't happy with each other.

When he questioned them separately they couldn't tell him why it didn't work. B'Elanna said that the passion that seemed to be there at the beginning just faded away. Tom said that much as he liked B'Elanna that he had found himself unable to fall in love with her. That when he started to date her he felt that if he were to fall in love, it would be with her, but it didn't happen.

Luckily, the break up was so civil they could still be friends. Tom waited a few weeks to start dating again. The first indication of this was when he walked into Sardines with the Delaney sisters on his arms. When Harry saw that, he felt it was time to make his move on B'Elanna, so the next day he asked her out. However, B'Elanna told Harry that she had decided not to date for awhile. She said that even though she was over her relationship with Tom, she wasn't over the failure of it. She didn't want to risk another friendship, at least, for a while. She told him that when she started to date again she would definitely keep him in mind. Unless, of course, he found someone else in the meantime.

As Harry was walking back to his quarters after having this conversation with B'Elanna he couldn't help but wonder why he wasn't more upset about it. In fact, a sense of relief had come when B'Elanna told him no. Just as he past Tom's quarters the Delaney sisters and Tom came out of them. Tom kissed them both and waved goodbye as they walked away.

Harry watched this and at first didn't understand what the feeling that passed through him was. In fact, it wasn't until after he got to his quarters and was taking a shower that he realized what it was. It was jealousy. Not that Tom was starting over when B'Elanna refused to. No, he was jealous about Tom.

Once he realized that he went back over the past few months and knew that it wasn't B'Elanna he had been interested in. No, the reason he was upset about their relationship was he wanted Tom, not B'Elanna.

Harry was in shock. He couldn't believe that he was so out of touch with his feelings. But after a few days came to the conclusion that it was his subconscious mind's way of letting him be jealous without dealing with why he was jealous. Harry had never been interested in a another man and was sure that Tom would never be interested in any. In the time Harry had know Tom he had dated many women but no men. Harry knew that many of the male crew had made passes at Tom, but Tom never seemed interested.

Harry decided that it would do no good to tell Tom about his feelings, and did his best to ignore them in the following weeks.

---

Tom was worried. Harry had been depressed lately, and nothing Tom did seemed to cheer him up. Tom knew that B'Elanna had turned Harry down and so thought that was the reason for Harry's depression. Tom was surprised. He knew that Harry liked B'Elanna, in fact, he knew it when he and B'Elanna started dating, but he hadn't realized how deeply Harry felt. If he had known he wouldn't have asked her out.

Tom felt guilty, and so kept trying to cheer Harry up. But it seemed that every time Tom tried, Harry would get mad at him. Finally, it got so bad that Harry seemed to avoid him as much as possible. After Harry ate dinner in his quarters to avoid him yet again, Tom knew he had to confront him. Tom didn't want to lose his best friend and it looked like he was. So, Tom went to Harry's quarters the next day after shift and waited for him.

At first Harry tried to get out of being alone with Tom by saying he had some reports to finish. Tom, however, wasn't buying it and pushed his way in. Unfortunately, Harry refused to talk about why he was depressed. This led to Tom and Harry having a huge fight and over the next week neither would talk to the other.

---

Captain Janeway had been watching the situation with Tom and Harry deteriorate. She didn't know exactly why they were avoiding one another, but she decided it couldn't continue for very much longer. So, the next time an away team was assembled she made sure to pair the two of them up.

At first the two managed to be professional and work together. However, the first chance they got to split up they did. Tom went one way to scan for the deposits of tellurium they were searching for and Harry went the other. Tom had just found a large deposit sure to make the Captain happy, when he heard the scream. He ran towards where it came from and discovered Harry's crumpled body at the foot of a cliff.

Luckily, the cliff was a small one and Tom was able to get down there quickly. Tom scanned Harry and found that although he was alive, he might be for long if Tom didn't get him to Sick Bay soon. Tom immediately called Voyager and asked for the two of them to be beamed directly to Sick Bay. As they disappeared Tom couldn't help but feel that he was responsible. If they hadn't fought they would have explored together and Harry probably wouldn't have wound up at the bottom of a cliff.

---

When they appeared in the Sick Bay the Doctor immediately started to work. It gave Tom a feeling of relief to see the Doctor so calm. Tom knew that the Doctor was a hologram, but he also knew the Doctor was very good at his job. Tom felt sure that the Doctor would have Harry up and about in no time.

Shortly after the Doctor finished with Harry the Captain came in. After she checked on Harry's condition she came over to Tom to hear his report. She was very glad that they had found the deposits and that Harry was going to be fine.

Luckily, Harry had only broken a couple of bones and been knocked unconcious. The doctor had quickly mended the bones and advised waiting for Harry to regained consciousness naturally. Once she was assured that Harry would live, and had gotten Tom's report, she left to finish her bridge shift. She had told Tom to take the rest of the day off before she left. Tom realized that the Captain did that because she knew he wouldn't be able to think about anything else but Harry until he woke up. Tom stayed in Sick Bay for another hour before that happened.

When Harry woke Tom was looking at him. Tom decided that he should be the one to apologize since he shouldn't have tried to push Harry about B'Elanna. When Harry heard Tom tell him he was sorry, he realized he couldn't continue to misled Tom. He told Tom that he wasn't really upset about B'Elanna turning him down. That, in fact, he never was. When Tom asked him what was really the matter if it wasn't B'Elanna, he was surprised to hear Harry say he was.

Tom asked him what did he mean by that. Harry then told Tom that he was in love with him. Tom didn't say anything after that, and just walked out. Harry was hurt, but knew that he couldn't have continued to hide his feelings.

At least, this way Tom will try to avoid me too, thought Harry.

After Captain Janeway's shift was over she came back to check on Harry. The Doctor had just given his OK for Harry to leave when she came in. The Captain told Harry to take the next few days off and rest. Harry gratefully accepted, since that meant he wouldn't have to see Tom for awhile. He then went to his quarters to go to bed.

---

When Tom left Sick Bay he was in shock. Harry, his best friend, was in love with him. He couldn't believe it. At first, that was the only thing that kept running though his mind. Finally, he calmed down enough to start thinking. He knew he would have to decide what to tell Harry the next time he saw him. A variety of responses ran through his head as he went to his quarters. Ranging from 'Are you out of your mind' to 'I've never been interested in another man, before, and I don't think I can start now.'

Eventually, Tom got tired and decided to try and sleep on it. So he got ready for bed and went to sleep.

The next morning Tom still didn't know what to do about Harry, but hoped he could figure it out by the time his shift started. When he got to the bridge he was surprised and relieved to discover that Harry had been put on sick leave. This meant he would have more time to think before talking with Harry. He wanted to find some way of saving their friendship. Harry meant too much to him to want to lose him. As Tom thought about the past he began to realize that the signs of Harry's love were very obvious. How Harry had always believed in him and had been there for him no matter what.

I always thought that Harry was just being a best friend. I never had a best friend before, and didn't realize that Harry had done things no friend, no matter how good, would do. thought Tom.

With that thought resounding in his head he began to think about all the times he had risked his life for Harry. He thought about how he helped Harry the first time he saw him, the first time he had helped anyone in a long while. What was it about Harry that had made Tom lower his walls of mistrust enough to want to help him?

Tom kept thinking about it for days, but couldn't come up with any answers. At least, until Harry returned to duty. When Harry walked onto the bridge that day Tom looked up and suddenly everything became clear.

My God. . . thought Tom, I love him. How could I have been so blind?

For the next several hours Tom had a hard time concentrating on his work. After he had finally admitted to himself how he felt, he kept noticing every time he turned around just how attractive Harry was. He noticed the silky black hair, the deep soulful eyes and the golden skin. He couldn't believe that he had never noticed these things before. He also kept thinking about those lush lips and how they would feel against his. By the time his shift was over he was having a hard time keeping the fact he was aroused from becoming very apparent. Starfleet uniforms were horrible for concealing anything. Only by thinking about really boring things was he able to calm down enough to leave the bridge without embarrassing himself.

---

Tom left the bridge and tried to decide what to do. He really needed to talk to Harry but wasn't sure how to go about doing it. Should he show up at Harry's quarters, leave him a message asking him to meet him in the Holodeck and run a romantic program, or should he talk to him in a public place like the mess hall?

Each had their advantages. Harry's quarters would provide privacy, the Holodeck would tell Harry without words that Tom was interested, and the mess hall would allow Tom to talk to Harry without the risk of him losing control and just jumping him. Finally, he decided to let fate make the decision. If Harry was in his quarters it would be there, if he was eating it would be the mess hall, and if he wasn't in either place he would leave the message and make arrangements to use the holodeck. So Tom asked the computer to locate Ensign Kim.

When the computer said that he was in the mess hall Tom went there immediately. As Tom entered the mess hall he looked around for Harry. He spotted him sitting by himself at a table near the far wall. Tom walked over and sat down. Harry who had seen Tom come in was surprised when he walked over. He was sure that Tom wouldn't want to see or talk to him again. After Tom had left the Sick Bay a few days ago Harry was sure their friendship was over for good.

Tom started by telling Harry he needed to talk to him and he would appreciated it if Harry didn't say anything until he was finished. "Harry, I know this will come as a surprise, I know it did to me, but after thinking about it a lot, I realized that I love you, too."

Harry started to interrupt, but Tom continued without pausing. "I think I have for a long time, but just didn't know it."

When Tom finally stopped Harry just sat there dumbfounded. It never occured to him that Tom might be able to love him back. Then Harry asked Tom if he was willing to have a relationship with him. Tom told Harry how distracted he was during duty and why. Harry was thrilled that Tom found him attractive and was willing to do something about it. So after asking him back to his quarters they left the mess hall.

---

As they approached Harry's quarters they both felt more than a little nervous. Neither of them had ever had a male lover before and was a little worried that this would work. Both knew what to do as sex education in the 24th century was very open minded and same sex relationships had been long accepted.

When they went in Harry's quarters Tom decided that maybe giving Harry a kiss would help. So he leaned over and kissed him. It was supposed to be a simple, short kiss. The kind you could give your grandmother, but when he felt Harry's lips he found himself unable to move away. The kiss quickly become passionate and long. By the time they pulled apart they were both breathing very heavily. Harry was extremely aroused and didn't know if he was going to be able to keep control. One kiss and he was more aroused than he had ever been in his life.

Tom started to slowly undress Harry and when Harry realized that he began to take Tom's clothing off too. As they removed each other uniforms they couldn't help but touch, caress and taste the skin that was being revealed. Soon all their clothing was removed and they started kissing each other again. Finally, Harry drew away and led Tom to the bedroom. He then laid down and pulled Tom into the bed with him. Their hands started to move over the other, and then Tom grabbed a hold of Harry's erection. When Harry felt that he suddenly lost control and came harder than ever before in his life. After a few minutes his breathing calmed down enough that he could think. He found himself being held by Tom. An very aroused Tom.

Harry wanted to do something special for Tom and after thinking about it got up and went to the replicator. When he ordered a tube of lubricant Tom's eyebrows shot up. He knew what Harry had in mind and although he really wanted to be inside Harry he wasn't so sure if Harry was ready for this. Harry, however, was sure he wanted this and after handing Tom the tube laid down on his stomach.

As Tom looked at Harry's beautiful backside and the tube in his hand he knew that there was no stopping this. So Tom opened the tube and put some on his fingers. Then he put the tube on the night stand. First he trailed one of his fingers up and down Harry's crack. Then he circled the hole and finally pushed a finger just a little into it. He took a long time to work one finger into Harry's hole but he was determined to make this good for Harry. He slowly moved the finger around. In and out it moved, loosening the muscle. Next he added a second finger and finally a third. EventuallyHarry started to groan and beg.

When Tom heard Harry begging he knew it was time to make that final step. He reached over and got the tube. He then quickly lubed himself up and slowly pushed his way inside Harry. Once inside he had a hard time resisting the urge to move, but he wanted to give Harry the time necessary to adjust. After a minute, Harry started to wriggle and Tom knew it was time to move. Slowly, Tom began to move in and out of Harry. Both started to groan and Tom reached around and grabbed Harry's erection. Tom started to pump it as he sped up his thrusts. Several minutes later Harry finally came. When Tom felt the contractions caused by Harry coming he quickly exploded himself.

When Tom awoke he realized that he had passed out from the pleasure and was still inside Harry. Slowly he pulled out and took Harry into his arms. Harry was stunned. He had done that to show Tom how committed he was to this relationship and was shocked to discover how wonderful it was. He had loved having Tom in him and definitely wanted to feel him there again, soon.

Later they got up and ordered some soup from the replicator. They were silent as they sipped it. Finally Tom asked Harry if he was OK. Harry told Tom that he felt wonderful. That he loved him and enjoyed having been with him. Tom wanted to know if he had hurt him as during the last few moments he had totally lost control. Harry assured him that he was fine and that it was the most wonderful thing he had ever felt. When Tom heard that he was very intrigued and insisted that Harry do it to him. So they made love again this time with Tom receiving Harry into his body. Afterwards, Tom wasn't sure which way he liked it best, but was sure that anyway would be wonderful with Harry. They slept that night in each other's arms.

---

The next morning they went to the mess hall together. At one time this wouldn't have been anything unusual and even after the last several weeks people might have thought they had just patched up their friendship except for one thing. When they walked in they were holding hands. So when people saw them they knew something very important had changed in their relationship.

Several people were worried that Tom would hurt Harry as he had a reputation for loving and leaving people. Harry was such a nice person that everyone on board felt a need to protect him. In fact, over the next several days people found an opportunity to get him alone and warn him about Tom. They also managed to corner Tom and threatened him if he did anything to hurt Harry.

Tom understood why people might think he was going to leave Harry considering his past, but what they didn't know was that in spite of dating a lot of women he had never fallen in love before. Now that he was in love Tom didn't intend to ever leave Harry. In fact, the only way they would be parted, as far as Tom was concerned, was by death and he for one was planning on living a long time.

---

As the weeks went by people began to accept their relationship and realize that Tom was very serious about this one. So when they announced their engagement no one was surprised. The Captain was pleased when they came to her to ask her to perform the ceremony. Harry and Tom decided that they should ask B'Elanna to stand up for them.

Happily, they managed to remain good friends with B'Elanna and when she started dating an ensign in security a few weeks before they were very pleased for her.

After a lot of planning, the rest of the crew not willing to let this go without a big celebration, the big day arrived. As they got ready they couldn't help, but think about all the things that had happened to get them to this point. Neither of them had any doubts about entering into marriage with the other, and the only regret they had was that it had taken them so long to realize how they felt. So with happy hearts they left their quarters to start their future together.
