I read a lot of fanfic. Some of it has problems that pull me out of the moment, mostly due to homonyms. So I set out to make a list of the most commonly misused ones.\u00a0 The first thing I discovered is that they aren\u2019t all homonyms \u2013 most are homophones. The difference?<\/p>\n

-nyms are spelled the same and sound the same, but mean different things. (bear = mammal & bear = tolerate)
\n-phones are spelled different but sound the same, and mean different things. (bear = ^^^ & bare = naked or plain)<\/p>\n

I read a lot of fanfic. Some of it has problems that pull me out of the moment, mostly due to homonyms.
