   Definitely unless you are purposely writing an a/u

   Pause, scream, and then keep reading.

   A combo of both I guess, a good memory helps, but so does having good research skills.

   Well canon is easier to find, but on the other hand, I'm kind of nosy, so I like the real stuff as well.or the

    Numerous ones. How about "if sex is sweet, and death is bitter, love is both. Love will always and forever break you heart." It's from Oz, my new obsession, and cause I'm kind of melancholy right now.

   I'm a 46-year-old female, originally from Ohio but now living in Atlanta, Georgia. I was divorced many years ago and am now happily single. I'm a paralegal for a large law firm, until recently their corporate paralegal but presently changing jobs to become an immigration paralegal, which I am enjoying.

3. How did you become a Fact Finder ?
   Not sure. I often have to find out stuff for my job and I've been pretty good at tracking stuff down. The Internet is an amazing resource, as long as you remember that any information you find there is only as good as whoever put it up there so always consider the source!

4. Why did you become a fact finder ?
   I guess because I think a story that keeps the facts in mind is less likely to throw someone out of a story if those facts don't add up. Not all stories, of course. Some stories go against the facts, i.e. AUs and fantasies, and I love some of them.

5. How do you find all these facts on TS ?
   Mostly from remembering or re-watching the episodes and also using some of the good website sources like Nightowl's page or Becky's page.

6. Do you think "facts" are important to the fandom? Why and how?
   Yes, especially canon facts. I think if you don't stay true to canon facts, then you might as well be writing about any two guys. Canon is very important.

7. If you read a story and the facts are off, what do you do ?
   As I said, if it is a story where facts are important, then if I come across a "fact" that is not one, it throws me out of the story. Let me state, however, if a fact is wrong and I don't know it (I don't make a habit of checking facts in a story I am reading for pleasure), then it is no problem.

8. Is Fact Finding a an "acquired talent" or a "natural ability" ?
   A little of both, I think. You have to like doing it, which I guess makes it natural, but you also have to learn where and how to look, which makes it also an "acquired talent."

9. Which type of facts do you prefer researching ? The real actor info, canon info ? Which is easiest to find? Hardest ?
   Canon, definitely, which I also believe is easier to find. I try to leave the real actors and their real lives alone. I feel they've done their job by giving us their blood, sweat and tears to provide us with a show that has inspired so much (community and fanfiction, to name a couple of things that, for instance, TS has given us).

    No.

    As I said in my beta questionnaire, I can never remember one when I need it. So yes, but I don't remember what it is.

   Research! Nightowl's Nest, Becky's transcripts, Cindy's character guide, personal knowledge, memory, etc.

6. Do you think "facts" are important to the fandom? Why and how?
   Yes, I do. It is difficult to branch off from canon successfully if you don't know what you're branching from, isn't it. Also, I think it's particularly important for the SVS, as we are considering the aired episodes as absolute fact. Sure, you can argue interpretation to some extent, but the basics are there and should be respected.

7. If you read a story and the facts are off, what do you do ?
   Generally, I'm very tolerant of this. I suspend disbelief quite well. <g> However, it is usually obvious whether an author is choosing to ignore or replace facts or is simply ignorant of them. Ignorance is not bliss in fanfiction!

8. Is Fact Finding a an "acquired talent" or a "natural ability" ?
   Either. Some people are good at it naturally, others are just stubborn enough to keep going until they get an answer (the second one would be me <g>).

9. Which type of facts do you prefer researching ? The real actor info, or the canon info ? Which is easiest to find? Hardest ?
   If you have a functioning VCR, canon is easiest. Watching episodes is NOT work! However, they are both difficult without the tapes.

   Female, 30, single. I live in Maryland and work in Virginia as a patent examiner for 5 years now. I own a roommate and 2 cats <ggg>.

3. How did you become a Fact Finder ?
   A friend was betaing for the season and asked if I was interested in helping. Beta positions were filled but there was stuff to be done.

4. Why did you become a fact finder ?
   I was interested in helping to put to gether a virtual season for one of my favorite obsessions.

5. How do you find all these facts on TS ?
   Re-watching of the eps if necessary (Oh the chore) or straight from memory

6. Do you think "facts" are important to the fandom? Why and how??
   Facts are VERY necessary for continuity and adherence to canon. Sharp fans have already caught way too many mistakes in the show. I'd like to help make that less likely in the virtual season.

   Usually read past it but figure they needed more research

   Well--most everyone can re-watch the episodes for specific answers. I think the natural ability come from how many of the details are memorized accuarately and are accessible.

   I prefer looking for canon info. Actor info is difficult because the actor information is scattered all over the net.

   I like research work.

   The usual sources: NightOwl's, then the episodes themselves. If push comes to shove, ask around.

6. Do you think "facts" are important to the fandom? Why and how??
   The facts form a framework for our stories to hang. We can ignore them, or change them in our stories, but in the end the foundation remains. It is the facts--however we may choose to twist them--that allow these thousands and thousands of interpretations.

7. If you read a story and the facts are off, what do you do ?
   Cringe, and move on. What can I do? I'm one of those people who absolutely MUST finish a story once started, no matter the pain. I try to avoid authors who completely threw me out of the story a second time.

8. Is Fact Finding a an "acquired talent" or a "natural ability" ?
   A little of both. The ability to research is definitely a skill learned, but the inclination to look for the itty bitty details is probably due to your own personality.

9. Which type of facts do you prefer researching ? The real actor info, or the canon info? Which is easiest to find? Hardest ?
   I prefer show canon to 'real people' info. Canon info is much easier to locate than RP details since I have the source (i.e. tapes) at my fingertips. Actor info creeps me out because it skirts so close to that issue of privacy.

   I was asked and silly me said yes. But I am enjoying working with DJ, who has done the lion's share of the typing and editing of the FAQ's, and Rosemary, who has really kept us inline J

   I do love research, and I think I pretty good at it.

   Three words… GOD BLESS NIGHTOWL!!! And Becky's transcripts are invaluable as well.

6. Do you think "facts" are important to the fandom? Why and how?
   Well, since the exec com has decided that canon is so important, I think that having all these basics in one easy place is time and energy saving for the authors and beta readers.

   I consider it AU.

   I think it is a bit of both.

   Well since Nightowl and Becky have done such a great job, fanon is definitely the easiest. Granted there is an awful lot to weed through, but "The truth is out there."

   Re-watch episodes (such a chore!!!) or check one of the reference sites. Mostly though it's a memory thing.

   Of course! Why? Because you want the facts to be right.
