Summary: As I am not one to coax people into reading something they might not enjoy, I feel a canon warning beyond the AU label is necessary.
I don't remember book canon, and while I did enjoy them when I read them 26 years ago, they are not something I ever wish to re-read. I mean no insult by this, but the movies speak to me in a way the books never could.
Thus I have relied on my own imagination, the two movies to-date and the books released about the movie to fill in the blanks throughout this tale. Inevitably many things will contradict the books beyond the obvious AU absence of Aragorn's romance with Arwen. So please read no further if such canon violations upset or otherwise hinder your enjoyment of a story.

Summary: Why did Tony open the envelope?
For Ozzie whose lovely music vid gave me the idea.
A/N: I loved SWAK as much as any h/c fan, but I didn't like that Tony was dumb enough to open the envelope in the first place. Still I let it go as the plot device it was and the question doesn't even come up in a longer fic I'm working on that is also post-Twilight.
Then there is the fact that I see Tony and Gibbs as being in an established relationship for long before the series started. I think they give off the "married" vibe and just ignore the mandatory het moments the show throws in for the other side (or see them as diversions to keep anyone from figuring things out.) :> At the same time, while I'm willing to regulate the Gibbs in his basement with the murderess scene to 'didn't happen,' it is somehow harder to regulate Tony opening the envelope to 'pretending to be het' category. So how does it fit into an established relationship?
Then I watched Ozzie's lovely vid and the answer to both problems popped into my mind. Of course, Tony still made a run for the Darwin Awards by opening the envelope, but at least he has a reason.

Set-up for those unfamiliar with this universe: The JLA in the cartoon-version is Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern (John Stewart version), the Flash and Hawkgirl.

The story takes place during the second to last scene of the ep. Don't need to know much about it beyond the fact that it was yet another tale in which someone altered the time stream and Our Heroes had to fix it. In this version, Vidal Savage changed the outcome of World War II so that Germany, with himself as the Fuehrer, won the war. Batman was not with the others when the change occurred so he changed with the past. In the altered present, he was leader of the resistance in an armored costume vaguely resembling his regular costume (IOW, it had bat ears and a face plate that covered the same amount of skin).
The Watchtower is their satellite headquarters. The shuttle does have a name, but it isn't in any of the eps I've taped so far.

I've had some health problems that resulted in a long writer's slump. As I've been coming out of it, a very recent thing, I've been concentrating on a non-fan fic project. Summary: Introduction: There is no situation in which I would believe Napoleon Solo would sleep with Illya Kuryakin. Words to that effect greeted me when I signed on to my on-line service early last Fall. Being the perverse little creature that I am, I immediately thought of an instance where they would not even consider doing otherwise.
Two nights later the story burst into my head and woke me up from a sound sleep at three in the morning. Fortunately, it was Saturday morning, leaving me free to start writing. The result is in your hands.
I have tried very hard to keep our two favorite U.N.C.L.E. agents in character, but I did take a few liberties with their surroundings.
The only thing I remember about living in the sixties was an intense desire to get out of the sixties, so I've moved everything to a modern setting. This story takes place in the nineties, a few months after a modernized version of the final episode, The Seven Wonders of the World Affair. Napoleon is in his mid-thirties, and Illya, who was always played as younger, is in his mid-twenties.
I also played fast and loose with the structure of the New York office as I couldn't make sense of the Sections the show's creators established.
I hope purists will forgive me.

However, it is not a death story in that he is replaced by a being who inhabits his body, has his memories, and has a genuine fondness (among other things) for Dean. Adding to the confusion, it is also non-con in the sense that Dean doesn't have any choice about the sexual relationship, but he enjoys all of it. So the pairing is Dean/NotSam with NotSam being the demon-Sam mix's name, not a warning that some other male character is bending Dean over the hood of the Impala.
