Sometimes the abbreviations and meta data used in describing fics can be confusing to the uninitiated. Below is a glossary of terms used within this site and follows mainstream conventions.

AU Stands for Alternate Universe. This means the fic does not follow official canon
beta A kind soul who has given her free time to read and edit a fic prior to posting. My beta angel is my good friend and fellow Stargate author Annie
canon The official storyline. If something follows canon it means that it reflects the official storyline e.g. Daniel finding the map room on Abydos
challenge response A challenge issued by another author within the fandom. It usually means that the fic has to contain a certain scenario, or set dialogue, or set item e.g. must contain vinyl, snow and a rubber duck
citrus A flavour of fic, meaning light romance and gentle affection
dark fic A fic dealing with very dark subject matter or setting
first time A fic depicting the first sexual encounter of a pairing
lemon A flavour of fic, depicting graphic adult themes
lime A flavour of fic, meaning initial physical stuff that fades to black before its gets too heavy
fluff A fic that describes with inconsequencial or trifle dealings with the characters e.g. musings on laundry day
H/C Stands for Hurt/Comfort. Where one or more of the characters is hurt and turns to another for comfort - which usually leads to a bit more than tender loving care
het Fic that describes a hetrosexual relationship eg Josh/Donna
LOTR Lord of the Rings
plot bunnies Ah...the infamous plot bunny. A plot bunny is the beginning of an idea for a fic. Plot bunnies tend to gang up on you and multiple at the time when you can least afford to write!
missing scene A fic describing something that could have happened off-scene from the official storyline. Usually used in TV fandoms
NC-17 A rating mirroring the movie industry standard. Contains wearing, violence, graphic sex. This is the highest rating a fic can carry
PG A rating mirroring the movie industry standard. Mild swearing and violence
PG-13 A rating mirroring the movie industry standard. Swearing, violence and mild sexual reference
pre-slash A fic describing events set before the pairing initiates a relationship i.e. look for the subtext
POV Stands for Point of View. This means that the fic is written from an first person perspective of one of the characters
R A rating mirroring the movie industry standard. Swearing, violence, nudity and moderately described sexual content
slash Fic that describes a same sex relationship eg Jack/Daniel
spoilers This means that a fic contains plot details from canon. It is used so not as to spoil the surprise for those who are watching/reading at an earlier stage in the official plotline. Mostly used in TV fandoms
