Buying Trouble
Epithalamion in Sapphic Verses - by Gail Riordan

Cypress, Oak, Acacia, lend your green ears
Pine and Poplar, Olive and gracious Cherry
Listen with your leaves and attend this tale of
     Rome and romance.

Trees do know all seasons, all skies and stars, as
Gods do know the heart's most unformèd hope: that
Love conjoin, grow roots and in time reach out its
     Fervent branches.

Witness, all you flourishing, leafy temples:
Eab now comes to Rome where Quaius waits him,
Both unknowing, lonely, constrained and wounded.
     Graft them together

Such that no terrestrial law may sever
What green and celestial will hath bound in
Strands of verdant sympathy; Blessing breathe on
     All such loving.

THE END
