Subject: Hi

Hi, I'm new to this list so I thought I'd tell everyone a little
bit about who I am. First, I must admit I'm new to the online
world...one of those "newbies" you always hear people groan
about. But I plunged right in anyway. (Hmm...groan, plunged
right in,..why does that remind me of something...?)

Probably most of you have heard of me already. The notorious
Leah S., writer of slash, reader of slash, publisher of
slash (do I detect a pattern here??) zines (sorry, just QL right
now...but you never know...). Been into S&H since it was first
aired in '75, but didn't find out about fandom till '83.

S&H. The first, and the best. The show I compare all others to
-- and VERY few have even been close to the challenge. S&H are
the model of perfection that no one else will probably ever
attain again. A once in a lifetime story of perfect love.

Well that's about it, I'm not real good at talking about myself.
But if anyone wants to ask any questions, I'll be glad to answer
them. And if any of my fandom friends is online that I don't
know about, email me with your address and say hi!

Leah
:)

Guess the story of the tolerant gen-only intro isn't as unique as
Flamingo though! :-) Here's another "me too." Although that
was way back in '83, when I first discovered fandom and found out
I wasn't alone in my love of S&H. I might be adding a twist by
saying I was actually *against* the idea of slash myself at
first. I was into all that Perfect Platonic Love crap, :-) and
thought adding sex somehow lessened the uniqueness of their bond.

However, I was *so* desperate for *any* S&H reading material that
I just ordered all the zines that I'd managed to get flyers on,
even the slash. The first zine that arrived was "Who You Know,
What You Know, and How You Know It." I was quite... scandalized,
;-) peeking at the sex scenes with embarrassment. For a first
introduction to slash -- that was about as gentle as a bucket of
ice water! It took me a little while to warm up to the idea, but
once I did there was no turning back.

It's too bad the *non*-tolerant genners couldn't feel what I did
at my first ZebraCon: as I sat back and watched the festivities,
Martha singing the wonderful love songs she wrote, the whole room
singing "The Rose," I realized that it didn't matter if some fans
saw S&H different from me (as lovers). We were all there for the
same reason: to celebrate the love between these two men --
regardless of how it's expressed. Love is love, and it's
beautiful in all its forms.

Now of course, I'm just a proud, card-carrying DOB*. ;-)
