Subject: [VP] Hey y'all!

I guess I should introduce myself now, huh? I've been around for
a little bit, but with unpacking all the boxes and trying to find
where I put stuff, it's been a little hectic. I hate moving, but
have really been looking forward to living here. It was worth
the hassle, especially after I got a few glimpses of a couple of
the neighbors. Wow, those jeans are kinda tight, aren't they?
But they both look sooo good in them. I keep trying to decide
which one looks better in 'em. I'll let y'all know if I can ever
decide. In the meantime, I'll keep looking.

Anyway, my name is Mia. I'm married with two girls: 10
and 5. I got sucked into fanfic by Mulder and Scully a few
months ago. Then I found Mulder and Alex slash stories which
totally blew me away. Then I came across Methos and Duncan.
After that, I found so many more couples I fell in love with: Jim
and Blair, Vic and Mac, Harry and Tom, Levon and Joe, Starsky and
Hutch, Bodie and Doyle, Ares and Joxer, Fraser and Kowalski,
Kellerman and Bayliss, Pendrell with anybody, and Apollo and
Starbuck. Yeah, I know. I fall in love really easily. Does it
show? <g>

I am not a writer. I have only written one M/K story and sweated
blood to do so. I may try my hand again some day. We'll see.
But in the meantime, I have plenty of stories to read that will
keep me busy, very very busy.

I belong to a discussion list for every one of my "couples"
except for Harry and Tom and that's only 'cause I haven't found
one yet. So, needless to say, I am a lurker. I read everything
that everyone has to say, but don't always comment. I do try to
make a concerted effort to let authors know that I enjoy their
stories. If I don't, maybe some day they'll get discouraged and
decide not to write any more. And then where will I be? Hungry
for stories and with nothing to feed that hunger.

So you may hear me pop up with a comment every now and again. I
go through phases though. There may be a day or two where you
can't shut me up, no matter how much you wish I would.<g>

It's really been interesting to read everything y'all have to
say. Thanks for posting the airing dates for episodes on TNT.
My VCR doesn't work, so I've been getting up at 5:00 to watch.
I'm dragging for the rest of the day, but watching them interact
with each other, those smiles, and those jeans have been worth
it. I saw some of the episodes when they first aired but don't
really remember them. At that time, I was more interested in
playing football with my brothers. Hey, I was a dumb kid, what
did I know?

I have rediscovered Starsky and Hutch. I have been reading the
archive which has great stories, btw. I got my hands on a couple
of zines. I'm hoping to join the lending library very shortly so
will be reading more zines.

Thanks for having me. Thanks to Candy Apple for letting me know
about y'all and Flamingo for inviting me to come.

Mia

>> How did YOU get into slash?

I stumbled across it completely by accident. I found some
Mulder/Scully erotica on Gossamer that was just really great.
What can I say?<shrug> I was a shipper. Then I found some
Mulder/Krycek which was truly eye-opening. It was like a light
went on(yeah, just like the cartoon) It just made so much sense.
Mulder's actions and Alex's reactions were explained so well by
that. I fell in love with them as a couple. Then I found Duncan
and Methos. Oh my! Then Jim and Blair. Another oh my!
Then...My list could go on and on and on.

>> Why did it appeal to you?

I just love the idea of two men *being in love*. I love to see
how hard it is for them to realize it, deal with it, and deal
with others' reaction to it. In my culture, it's something that
is so hushhush. That I know of, I've only met one Hispanic gay
man and I had to move to the city to do it. In our pop culture,
homosexuality is not dealt with at all unless it's as an
extremely camp, very limp wristed stereotypical punchline to a
joke. And only men. I don't think I've ever seen anything about
lesbians. Anyway, I think that's part of the reason I love to
see two very strong men deal with their feelings for each other.
I love to see how they work out the logistics of their
relationship and the day-to-day stuff. Each has so much macho BS
he has to deal with, his own and his partner's. He's been
spoonfed ideas about how a REAL MAN is supposed to act and then
to have to deal with how different *his* reality is from
that...Wow! I just love that! To see how they get past that, to
be able to show each other love, gentleness, affection, all the
tender emotions that manly men don't... In the words of a
gorgeous Chicago cop, that really butters my muffin. That's why
Starsky and Hutch are one of my favorites. They are always
telling each other 'I love you' without saying a word. The fact
that they're beautiful, and so very sexy, also doesn't hurt.;-)

>> How do you deal with it?

You mean other than read everything in sight on any site? I have
a PalmPilot that I fill with stories in the memo section(one of
the joys of technology). It's a lot easier to just pull that out
instead of dragging around a purse full of stories which is what
I did before. I still print stories like crazy. I read anything
that grabs my attention which is very easy to do. I love stories
that grab me by the heart and don't let go.

>> Are in the closet about it?

So far in the back, it's totally dark in here. Only one other
person knows about it and that's cuz she bugged the heck out of
me about what I was reading. Now, she bugs me even more. She
wants to know all about it. I keep looking for stuff in Spanish
so she can read it for herself but so far, no luck. Everyone
else just thinks I read fanfic cuz it's free on the 'net and it's
about "my" shows.

>> What compels you to write it

I have movies playing in my head. I can see the expression on
Ray's face when Bodie makes one of his cracks. I can see the
smile on Hutch's face when Starsky does something to make him
laugh. I can see the look on Mulder's face when Alex smiles at
him. I see *them* all so clearly, reacting to each other. If I
could put down on paper what I see... Everyone would be in love
with them as much as I am. I've tried and I keep trying, but so
far...

>> and read it?

I can't get them out of my head. I am addicted and I can NOT
stop. I *HAVE* to read another story. I have to see how they
discover each other and what happens then. I like almost all
slash stories, but I love certain type of stories, especially if
they feature my favorites. I love first times stories,
(especially Pros) established relationships (S/H, HL, and
Sentinel) redemption, (X-Files) and AUs (Pros). I love LONG
stories because they explore everything from beginning to end. A
series is even better. If I've fallen in love with them in that
universe, I don't want to leave them and I love coming back to
them.

Wow, I had a lot to say about that, didn't I? If you've gotten
this far, thanks for reading my dissertation on why I like
slash.<g> I can't wait to hear what everyone else says.
