Subject: [VP] Give me the Fiction, and nobody gets hurt...

Well, I've finally (partially) dug my way out from under all of
the boxes. Man, moving in can be such a *bitch*...

Anyway, here I am. All settled. Adult beverages chilling in the
fridge (...and a Pepsi too, Ro...). Everything all put away.
Scoped my way 'round VP. Getting a feel for where everything is.

And then, I hear about it.

Subtle, quiet little conversations. Nothing real overt. Just a
mention...here, and there...

'...posting...'

'...new stories...'

'...part of the **** series...'

Now...I know where the library (er...archive) is. It's what made
me look into moving in (well, that and a great reference---Big
Wave Candy ;)but now I'm thinking (always dangerous <g> ) that
there may just be a fiction list lurking out there somewhere that
I'm totally clueless about.

So?? Hmmmm?? Is there????

God, I'm hopeless...I can just hear it now "What honey? What did
you say? The computer blew up because I had How Many e-mails to
read???"

Oh well...if someone could e mail me privately and let me know if
there is such a beasty, i would be very grateful.

Feet up on the balcony, and the welcome mat out...

Here I was....*trying* to be a good lurker, and then *this*
subject comes up. And I had to bop in to share my two cents
worth.

First, as to the basic questions:

How did YOU get into slash?

The net, dears...the lovely, *lovely* internet. There is
was...August before last, and Hubby and I had finally entered the
20th century. Our own computer...with *gobs* of memory...and a
killer modem. So, natch'...I had to SURF!! And surf I did. To
Sentinel sites. Reams, and reams of Sentinel sites. (do you
have any idea how many of them there are????) Which led me to
fanfiction. Which led me to the wetdream of all sites: Adult Fan
Fiction on the Web. Oh...Mama!!!!! YES!!! Yesyesyesyesyes!

Can you tell I had a good time <g>

Why did it appeal to you?

And my question is: How could it Not?? I guess I just loved
finding a niche where all the great relationships I adored on
television (because, hey--I'm a child of my generation...and we
were reared on the tube...) were taken to the next level. Where
that added bit of 'umphf' was finally *there*. And I don't
necessarily mean sex--as wonderful as that is with all of our
various 'boys'--, I mean the Love. The Relationship. The
Commitment. I've seen some wonderful, in-depth discussions on
this subject line, but for me it was simple. They cared. So I
did.

Thinking back on it, I guess my first slash couple *was* S/H. I
just didn't know what to call it then. All I knew, was there was
this *incredible* couple a' guys on TV every week, who were sooo
*good* with each other, and so close, and so, so...you know!,
that I wanted them to run forever. And, I was 18...in southern
Missouri...and clueless.

But I got better. <g>

How do you deal with it?

By making this my number one hobby. (If I could find a way to
get paid for it, man--would *I* have a career change... ;)

Are in the closet about it?

Closet?? What's a Closet?? <bg> Actually, the only ones who
don't know about it are the family units. On both sides. Mine,
because...well...do the words Southern Baptist and small town
mean anything to you? And his? Actually, it's just never come
up. This is a very special part of my life, and I just feel like
enjoying it. Not defending it. Know what I mean?? But, as far
as most of my friends go...it's an open thing. It's not the
first thing I discuss (except when they ask what chapter I'm on
now ;), but, I don't shush them and go onto other things if other
people are around. And the cool part is, people I've known for
*years* are into it too. I mean, one little remark...and then
that sideways look, and a smile, and BAM! we're off in the
corner talkin' stories. Right after the words "You too?" come
out. ;)

I've met some great buddies thru fandom, and slash. Why would I
want to hide *that*?

Which.....TADA....brings me to the subject line of this was-
gonna-be-short post. My spouse.

My husband Jamie is the poster child for Slash-Tolerant-ism.
Totally. Couldn't care less. After I immersed myself in it a
while, and found some authors and universes and fandoms I really
liked, I told him. And, while at first, he kinda smirked...and
asked me if I'd "found any more good 'gay love stories' today?",
he's seen that it's sparked my urge to write from 'wanting to'
into reality. (and before you ask, it's not in this fandom and
it hasn't gone up...yet. I have a brain that can turn a 'let's
experiment with a pwp' into a universe of its own. And has. So
it's still in the growing, and tweaking, stage )

And that the people I've met (online, and then in person) were
cool. Not an axe-murder among them ;)

The only problem he has is when the computer time becomes
priority one, and other things get left undone. But, ya know,
that'd probably happen with whatever was peaking my interest at
the moment. So it's not a slash-related problem. Just a
prioritizing-thing problem.

And he's really happy that I'm getting instant feedback on what
I'm doing. In fact, he told me that just the other day in the
car. Anybody else discuss slash on the way to a friend's for
Christmas dinner? ;)

And that's why Jamie has a Sentinel bookmark in his textbook
right now. And my going to MediaWest is my Christmas present.

He's just *too cool*. <VBG>

And I'm wordier than hell.

Goodnite everyone.

Carole W (who *knows* what concise means...but is just behind on
her practical application of the word ;)
