I could have sworn I did this just a little while ago, but now I
can't find the message in my box so I guess I didn't.

First the boring stuff, I'm 28, married, two cats, no kids, live
in Florida and work as a graphic designer.

Thank god for the internet, or else I never would have figured
out there was slash in the world. I first signed on in 1994 and
within a week I'd managed to find the AOL discussion thread
entitled "Are Kirk and Spock Lovers." I'd heard of K/S but
thought it was like five women back in the seventies with a
mimeo, and that as usual, I was way too late to have any of the
fun. But in with all the posts crying "no way, they would never
be like THAT!!" was one little note that said, "Of course they
are! E-mail me for details." And it was signed Kathy Resch.

Paydirt!!! I took the first step down the road to Hell.

Back then there was no K/S to be found online at all, lots of
other Trek stuff but no K/S (and I had never even seen one single
episode of Starsky & Hutch.) I was so desperate, I decided to
write some. I had never written anything and knew it would suck
but I thought, maybe some other K/Sers will find me and write me
before I go nuts! (I know, too late.) Well, I did, and it
worked, and slowly I found out about zines and stuff, all the
while hiding everything slashy from everyone I knew, including my
husband. I was sooo paranoid.

Mixed in with the responses I got for that first story, I had
this wonderful letter from Linda (Linda301@aol.com) where she
wrote, this is really nice but have you ever thought of writing
Starsky & Hutch? I was like, uh, the cop show?? Then it
snowballed. Morag sent me nine episodes (and the bloopers!) I
watched a few, liked them, but when I saw Gillian, I was hooked.
Something about that one just hit all my buttons, and I fell in
love with Starsky. Stacy sent a ton more episodes, and then I
met Martha at Eclecticon and got my first zines. Wham!! A full-
blown S/H fan. So far I've only written one story, under the pen
name Rose Singer. But I think she'll write again soon...

I've never seen such generosity and such an effort to make
someone welcome as I've encountered in this fandom, and I really
can't express how terrific I think you guys are. (Oh yeah, and
telling the husband had a happy ending, in case anyone was
worried. It took me almost a year to admit I *write* the stuff
too, but he's dealing.)

Gawd, that was long.

P.S. No S/H here, but if you'd like to see my home page it's at:

Almost all K/S with some Highlander and Wiseguy art mixed in.

I love all these corruption-of-the-innocent stories!

Leah writes,
>It's too bad the *non*-tolerant genners couldn't feel what I did
at my first
>ZebraCon: as I sat back and watched the festivities, Martha
singing the
>wonderful love songs she wrote, the whole room singing "The
Rose," I realized
>that it didn't matter if some fans saw S&H different from me (as
lovers). We
>were all there for the same reason: to celebrate the love
between these two
>men -- regardless of how it's expressed. Love is love, and it's
beautiful in
>all its forms.

Amen, amen, Leah. I haven't heard this expressed so beautifully
before. I've been to several cons in the past couple years, but
Zebracon *is* very special, and very wonderful, just like this
list. Thank you for reminding me how grateful I felt to be
included last year.
