Author's note: This story came about as a homage to the original series. Take the following classic Trek themes: the captain meets an ex who may be deranged, but isn't able to tell even though the audience can; humans stranded on a less advanced planet proceed to take over and exploit the natives by claiming to be gods (yada yada); one of our heroes gets to have a kickass battle involving less than sophisticated-technology weapons... and add the fact that Malcolm Reed's gonna look pretty damned good (to say the least) in black leather with a sword. Certainly better than Kirk ever did in those classic gladiator-battle-type eps.
Muchas gracias to the Trekslash chat crew, who thought Malcolm dueling was a fine idea, and that Malcolm in skintight black leather was pretty good all by itself. Everything else here is nothing more than a ploy to accomplish those ends in a logical way.
Particular thanks to Kim and Drovar, who beta'd and test-drove this baby around the block. And to Kim for provoking the story in the first place (it's all 60's singer Gene Pitney's fault but explaining that's a loooong story...).

I should mention that I was one of the gay activists who protested Al Pacino's flick "Cruising." However, I always wondered if the concept could be redeemed if the cop wasn't a homophobic SOB and was into leather himself. I was thinking more of Jeffrey Dahmer as a villain when I started this story, but the Pacino movie came to mind later on into the writing.

Summary: Comments: Almost no one realized this, but in order to fit more commercial time into the X-Files episode "SR 819," two minutes of footage were trimmed from the episode—four thirty-second clips that wound up on the cutting room floor. Fortunately, they have been retrieved from the Chris Carter Library of Edited X-Files Scenes located in the Fox Studios dumpster. I have done my best to transcribe the scenes so that you can see what disappeared from the end of four major scenes of this remarkable episode. (These are NOT slash humor. They ARE thirty-second exchanges which take place at the end of four scenes and in fact change nothing about the episode.)

Summary: Notes and Summary: According to David Duchovny, Fox Mulder is Jewish. DD's from the Lower East Side, so he should have a clue. Other than that, AU territory here. Our favorite one-armed man's now tied in with the Russian Mafia in New York, and is grudgingly assisting the Federal Prosecutor's racketeering investigation by helping set up sting operations against some of the competing gangs in exchange for protection against some of his former buddies in the Consortium. You'd never imagine who his business partners are…and he and Mulder have been lovers for well over a year. "Tunguska" and "Terma" happened (more or less), but not the balcony scene. They just went over to Skinner's for a beer. Events here are post-Fourth Season, after "Gethsemane". What was Mulder doing all that time everyone thought he was dead? (Play along. Pretend it went on for a while. Were you clear on the exact timeline from "Gethsemane" to "Redux II" yourself?) Would you believe he was at a family reunion?

If you've seen the movies but you've never read Ian Fleming's original novels, I'm actually borrowing a bit from them as well, particularly from the original novels of "Casino Royale," "Thunderball," and "Diamonds are Forever." In particular, there's a way Fleming describes casinos and the Bond Girls and writes about sex that the movies simply can't capture. Even though this is slash humor done as movie genre parody, I had to go to Fleming's actual writing style to convey some of the mood. Bond takes on a whole different look in print; I recommend it. No similarities to Austin Powers are intended. If you find any, shoot them. Sharks don't count.
