This was not good. He could feel himself breaking. His carefully forged veneer shattering in so many pieces. One misstep, a move that hadn't even been his, and he was losing himself. He needed his other, his yang, the one that completed him, balanced him, brought light to his darkness. Tonight that darkness was deep and growing blacker with every ragged, panted breath; bleaker with every rapidly stuttering heartbeat.
By the time Alec reached him, he had collapsed in on himself. Sea-green eyes, unfocused and vacant, stared at nothing, white-knuckled hands gripped his knees to his chest, holding himself together as if the physical and mental acts were one.
"Ben," Alec called softly, stroking the short hair of his twin. "Ben, it's Alec, I'm here." The younger transgenic knelt by his brother, carefully sliding an arm around Ben's back, pulling him to rest against his strong chest. Tenderly Alec rocked Ben in his arms, until his breathing slowed and steadied. Once he thought Ben was calm enough, Alec stood, guiding his brother to their bed. He took great care in settling his brother into bed, knowing how sensitive Ben was in this state. "It's okay, Ben. We'll get you through this," he whispered soothingly as he removed the young man's clothes. "Remember last time?" he asked as he began to strip his own clothing. "Took a while, but we did it- you did it. And that's what we do this time." He slid into the bed next to his lover. "I'll be right here. I'll always be here." Once again he pulled Ben to his chest, kissing his forehead and tracing nonsense designs on his back- both acts Alec knew were like a healing balm to Ben's mind. For hours they laid there, Alec lovingly stroking Ben's back, dotting his face and head with gentle falling kisses, and uttering words of comfort, love, and loyalty. "I won't ever leave you, Ben. I can't. You're part of me and I love you."
Ben slowly turned dazed eyes to Alec's, "My yang," he whispered hoarsely and tucked himself perfectly into his lover's form.
Tightening his arms around Ben, Alec smiled, knowing together they would beat the darkness, again, and the light buried in that darkness would burn pure enough for both of them.
