Walter Skinner dashed down the steps of the Federal building, heading for the coffee shop down the street. Checking his watch he opted to take the short cut across the park.

Halfway across, he came to a stunned stop. Not believing what he saw, he blinked, gaping, slack-jawed, at the man sitting on the bench aimlessly tossing crumbs to the birds. His gun appeared in his hands as if by magic and he fell into a regulation stance.

"Krycek, don't move."

Alex Krycek tilted his head, squinting against the sun. "Oh, hey, hi, Skinner." he said without any apparent concern that there was a gun aimed directly at his heart.

The gun in Skinner's hand dipped. "Oh, hey, hi?"

Krycek shrugged. "You gonna shoot me again?" He dipped into the bag in his lap and tossed out more crumbs, smiling as the birds skittered over the grass the claim their bounty.

Feeling as if he'd stepped into the twilight zone, Walter slid his gun back into the side holster and sat down on the bench next to the man who was his enemy. "You're supposed to be dead."

Krycek offered Skinner a handful of crumbs. Skinner shook his head and Krycek shrugged, tossing out another palmful. "Got better."

"Got better?" Skinner scowled, feeling a bit like a record caught in a scratch. "People don't just get better from being dead, Krycek."

"Do if their not dead." Kyrcek explained, his voice monotone and lifeless.

"You trying to say that bullet between your eyes wasn't enough to end your miserable life."

"Sorry," he sighed heavily. "Ever hear about people living after having rods rammed through their heads?"

"You're the real Krycek?"

He turned, poking at an angry looking scar. "The original."

Walter took a moment to absorb the impossible truth, cataloging the dull green of his eyes, the dark exhausted shadows and hollows of his face. "So what are you doing here?"

"Retired."

"You...retired?" Skinner's eyes widened in disbelief. "Spender know about that?"

His movements slow and heavy, Krycek dug into his hip pocket and tossed his cell in Skinner's direction. "Ask him yourself."

Astounded, Skinner shook his head. "So I ask you again, what are you doing here?"

"Ah, here and now, you mean." He tossed out another handful of crumbs, chuckling with heavy sadness as a pair of birds fought over a large hunk of bread. "Waiting."

"What are you waiting for, Krycek?" Skinner asked, almost afraid to hear the answer.

Kyrcek up-ended the bag, scattering the last of the crumbs and rose stiffly.

"What are you waiting for, Krycek?" Skinner repeated, more urgently.

"Someone to come shoot me in the head." he tossed over his shoulder.

Skinner stared after the slow moving man, too stunned to do anything more.

The end

Next up, Kate R [MakeBelieve_YG], who has requested a "21 Jumpstreet" Doug Penhall/Dennis Booker fic
