here! set to premiere "Kiss Me Deadly"
Shannen Doherty and Robert Gant star in highly anticipated spy thrillerApril 17 – here!, America's premium gay television network, is pleased to announce the premiere of "Kiss Me Deadly: A Jacob Keane Assignment." The film, starring Shannen Doherty ("Beverly Hills, 90210," "Charmed") and Robert Gant ("Queer as Folk") will be released theatrically and premiere on the network on May 2nd.
Doherty and Gant star as former spies caught in a web of dangerous intrigue. Directed by Ron Oliver ("Queer as Folk," here!'s "Shock to the System" and "Third Man Out"), and shot in New Zealand, Gant plays Jacob Keane, a photographer living the family life in Milan with his loving boyfriend, Paolo, and Julia, the daughter he shares with his lesbian friend, Kyra. When a young woman, Marta (Doherty), arrives from his past life, he is pulled back into the high-stakes world of international espionage. Together they must elude a mysterious enemy who becomes more of a threat the closer they come to revealing the truth about their alliance.
Similar in style to "The Bourne Identity" movies, the film also stars acclaimed character-actor John Rhys-Davies (from the final two installments of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy) and features a suspenseful game of who-dun-it that questions the main characters' true loyalties. Much like another here! hit original film franchise "The Donald Strachey Mysteries" – starring Chad Allen and also directed by Oliver – "Kiss Me Deadly" blazes a trail by going into often-uncharted territory: placing its main character (Gant) as a courageous action-hero who also happens to be gay, as opposed to making his sexuality a central theme of the film.
"The filmmakers had an absolute blast re-imagining the spy genre with a gay element. Robert and Shannen's chemistry makes the film all the more fun to watch," said Meredith Kadlec, Senior Vice President of Original Programming.
