***Just wanted to let everyone know that for professional reasons, Robert is no longer using the name "Bobby." Please refer to him as Robert now. Thanks so much!
Birth Name: Robert Gonzalez
Birthday: July 13, 1968
Birth Place: Tampa, Florida
Sometimes credited as, Robert J. Gant
From 2001 to 2005, Robert Gant appeared on television screens across the nation as one of the stars of Showtime's hit television series, "Queer as Folk."
Most recently, Robert inked a deal with Viacom-owned, MTV-run gay cable network, LOGO, to star in and executive produce a new show, "The Gayonic Man." He also stars as cinema's first gay spy in the soon-to-be-released film, "Kiss Me Deadly," for Here! Television, shot on location in New Zealand and has completed production on the Lifetime movie, "Special Delivery," due out in December.
In addition to these projects, he recurred as the eccentric principal, Calvin Krupps, on the WB's "Popular" and as Caroline's boyfriend, Trevor, on NBC's "Caroline in the City." Gant has had many notable guest spots on such TV hits as "Friends," where he played one of two gorgeous men Phoebe was dating simultaneously, "Veronica's Closet," "Becker," "Melrose Place," "Ellen," "Pepper Dennis," "The Closer," "CSI," and "Nip/Tuck," to name a few.
He also appeared in the independent films "Live," "The Contract," "Fits and Starts" and "Marie and Bruce." Robert's love of acting and performing began at an early age. He started doing television commercials and joined the Screen Actors Guild at the age of ten in his home state of Florida.
He went on to attend undergrad at the University of Pennsylvania and law school at Georgetown University. While studying, he never gave up on his true passions and took part in numerous theatrical productions. Interestingly, it was his career as an attorney that brought him to Los Angeles when he accepted a position with the world's largest law firm. In a twist of fate, the firm's Los Angeles office was closed soon after.
Taking that as an omen, he made the decision to focus all of his time on the entertainment business. To that end, his time in Hollywood is not limited to performing. Robert has been a producing partner in the film and television production company, Mythgarden. Their feature film, "Save Me," which stars Robert along with Judith Light and Chad Allen recently premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival and is slated for release in 2008. The company's slate of projects, each with varying degrees of gay-focused content, included joining David Duchovny and the HERE! Network to produce "The Way Out," a love story about two gay seniors who fall in love in a home for the aging. That film is still in active development.
While he gives time to a number of philanthropic and political causes, such as HRC (by which he was given their National Equality Award), GLAAD (by which he was given their Davidson/Valentini Award for the promotion of equal rights in the community), and Lambda Legal, Robert's "torch issue" is that of aging in the gay community. He supports such organizations as SAGE (Senior Advocacy for GLBT Elders), which named him their first Honorary Elder, and GLEH (Gay and Lesbian Elder Housing), on which he serves as Honorary Board Member.
Robert currently resides in Los Angeles.
In just a few years, actor Robert Gant has gone from real-life Ivy Leaguer and barrister-in-training to portraying the Good Humor Man, a sexy handyman, the all-around nice guy, an offbeat high school vice principal...and most recently, a professor of literature and gay studies.
A native of Tampa, Gant began acting and performing at a young age. He appeared in a national TV commercial for Cheerios cereal in the fifth grade and did a soft-shoe routine at age 11 with legendary comedian Bob Hope as part of a USO show. In high school, Robert ("Bobby") was involved in a variety of extracurricular activities. He sang in a barbershop quartet, appeared in the school's theatrical productions (including "Grease"), and played football.
Gant remained active in theatrical and musical endeavors in college but had his eyes set on becoming an attorney. He studied pre-law at the University of Pennsylvania, earning his undergrad degree in 1990. He received his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC, in 1993 and took a job in Los Angeles with a law firm.
When the LA branch of the firm closed in 1994, Gant remained in California to pursue an acting career. At first, he landed small roles and guest appearances on several television programs, including "My So-Called Life," "Step by Step," "Melrose Place," "Friends," and "Ellen." In 1996, Robert was selected from a pool of more than 500 applicants to reprise the role of the Good Humor Man; he donned a white suit and black bow tie, drove a Good Humor ice cream truck, and sang and danced in a series of commercials for the Good Humor-Breyers Ice Cream Company. He also appeared in commercials for Coors Light beer, Saturn cars, and Hanes underwear (with Michael Jordan).
Robert later had recurring guest star roles on "Caroline in the City," as Caroline's (Lea Thompson's) boyfriend Trevor, and on "Popular," as Vice Principal (and then Principal) Calvin Krupps of Kennedy (as in "Jackie O") High School. In Spring 2002, he joined the cast of "Queer as Folk" as Ben Bruckner, a professor of literature and gay studies who develops a romantic relationship with one of the show's main characters, Michael (played by Hal Sparks). Gant's film credits include "Cityscrapes: Los Angeles," "Jane Street," "The Contract," "Teaching Mrs. Tingle*," "Fits and Starts" (scheduled for a 2002 release), and the TV movie, "Bitter Vengeance."

Robert Gant, is an actor selected by Good Humor-Breyers Ice Cream Company from 500 aspirants to impersonate an American icon: The Good Humor Man. In addition to doing commercials -- one in which he led 50 children in a rap and hip-hop dance routine while passing out Good Humor Bars, he makes public appearances for the company. He has done commercials for Coors Light, Hanes underwear (with Michael Jordan), and Saturn. He has made guest appearances on television shows including Ellen, Hangin' With Mr. Cooper, Step by Step, My So-Called Life and Melrose Place. He once performed a soft-shoe dance routine with Bob Hope in a USO show. (Photo from Good Humor-Breyers)
