Starfleet command fears it may be Orion Pirates, as Altramin IV is heavily laced with natural Dilithium. Of course, ENTERPRISE will answer this call, as we are less than six hours away at warp five, and there are no other ships within range. However, if we leave immediately, we will be forced to abandon Lieutenant Commander Spock and Doctor McCoy on Carstair III, which is currently under medical quarantine. Their work there progresses slowly, but McCoy assures me that they will find a cure for the epidemic that sprang up virtually overnight and wiped out almost half of the scientists who were attending the conference there. Thanks to the diligence of Mr. Spock, the perpetrator of this sabotage has been caught, and the cause of the epidemic has been determined ... it is just a matter of time before a counteragent can be synthesized and distributed. The planet's scientific resources are numerous, and we have supplied as much additional equipment as we possibly can. With Spock's help, as well as the other members of the conference who survived the initial contamination, they should have a cure soon. :: there was a pause in the recording, then Kirk continued in a more subdued tone:: On a more personal note, I find I am apprehensive over leaving Spock and McCoy on Carstair III while we go to the aid of Altramin IV. In the short time they have known each other, they have spent the majority of their time bickering and insulting each other ... I fear they will be unable to agree on anything they do, let alone work together for an extended period of time without a 'buffer'. But of course, I have no choice, really ... I have done all I can to aid Spock and McCoy from orbit, and if it *is* Orion's attacking Altramin ... well ... --- Kirk lapsed into silence as the image of a decimated planet superimposed itself on his mind's eye. Closing the log recording, he turned to his navigator and helmsman, saying, "Plot a course to Altramin IV, Warp five." Not waiting for a reply, he turned to the communications station and said, "open a comm channel to McCoy, please." "Course plotted, sir." "Channel open, sir" "Stand by, helm ... Bones, you there? Is Spock with you?" "Yeah, Jim, we're both here ... what's up?" "Looks like we'll be leaving you for a day or two ... there's some trouble on Altramin IV we have to deal with ASAP ... the details are in the message packet attached to this transmission." Kirk could hear the muffled conversation in the background, and knew that the scientist in the lab below were uncomfortable with the thought that they would be left on Carstair without protection from Starfleet. "Bones, Spock ... I'll try not to be away too long ... hopefully you'll have your mystery solved by the time we get back. Is there anything else you need before we leave?" "Captain," Spock said, "could you have them send down an additional kinetic analyzer, so that we may improve our testing time. I am finding that our samples are deteriorating faster than we can analyze them." "Of course, Spock ... anything else?" "No, that should do it, Jim," McCoy said, as he looked around at the scientists in the lab with him to make sure nobody else had a request. Satisfied that he had not missed anything, he quipped, "hurry back, now ... ye'hear?" "We will, Bones ... oh, and Bones? Spock? Can you do me a favor while I'm gone?" "And what would that be?" McCoy asked, perplexed. "Be nice to each other ... I don't want to get back here only to discover that you've murdered each other over some minor disagreement." They looked at each other, and McCoy winked at Spock before returning his attention to the captain, saying, "I think I can restrain myself ... as long as he keeps his damn Vulcan opinions to himself." "Bones ..." there was a warning in that tone, and McCoy smiled to ease his anxiety. Before anything more was said, Spock intervened, adding, "Captain, I assure you that I will not provoke the good doctor." "Very well ... I'll see you both in a few days ... good luck." "And to you, sir." --- McCoy was not surprised when he entered the lab ... Spock was in the exact same position he had been in when he had left six hours ago, to get some much needed sleep. It was a sure sign of the Vulcan's exhaustion when he jumped at the touch on his shoulder ... under normal conditions, McCoy would never have been able to get that close to him without his being aware of it. "Didn't mean to startle you, Spock," he said as he began to massage the tight shoulder muscles. It took no time at all for Spock to relax into McCoy's strong hands ... with a small sigh, he leaned back, ignoring his research for a moment. But that moment passed all too soon, and Spock straightened, saying, "I appreciate your efforts, but I must finish this series of tests ... I may be onto a solution here." McCoy, knowing that Spock had been at it for nearly 36 hours straight, wanted to insist he stop and rest, but this was the first time he had been at all optimistic about finding a solution. Keeping that in mind, he would allow Spock to continue for a bit longer ... not only to finish this round of testing, but also to explain the process to McCoy, so that he would be able to do the next step while Spock got some much needed sleep. There were 20 minutes left in the current test phase. As the machinery whirred and buzzed around them, Spock watched the readouts with one eye, as part of his brain explained the process to McCoy. He also explained exactly what would be required, if the final results were as expected. The time passed quickly, and soon McCoy was up to speed on the proceedings ... he had all but convinced Spock to rest when the final results came in. There was a 1.5% divergence from what Spock had predicted, which would slightly alter the next phase. "Damn it, Spock ... you need some sleep. I can handle the next phase, with or without the divergence." "But Leonard ..." Spock started, but McCoy quickly silenced him. "No 'buts'! ... I'm perfectly capable of performing these tests, including the variation needed for the divergence." He was facing Spock when he said the last, and placed his hands on Spock's shoulders to make sure he had his full attention. Seeing that he did, he continued, "I need you at 100% if this round of testing pans out. Synthesizing and distributing the serum will require all of us to be at our best if we are to save these people." "You are correct," Spock said. "Damn straight, I am! I'm always correct." he said with a broad smile. With a raised brow, eliciting an even wider smile from McCoy, Spock said, "you are many things, Leonard, but 'always correct' is not one of them." Leaning forward, he lightly kissed McCoy on the forehead, and said, "the next phase of testing will take you exactly six hours ... I will expect you to wake me in exactly five hours so that I may observe the final stage," and he paused to give McCoy a stern look before asking, "understood?" "Understood," he said, as he ran his hands down Spock's arms, lifting the hands to his lips and kissing the palm of each before releasing them, adding, "now off with you!" --- Four hours and forty-five minutes later, Spock returned to the lab. As McCoy became aware of his presence, he glanced at the chronometer on the wall, and frowned, saying, "what are you doing here? You had another fifteen minutes to sleep," but he could not keep the frown for long. No more than twenty minutes ago, he had come to the conclusion that they had found the answer to their medical emergency, and soon they would be able to synthesize the cure. "I know, Leonard ... but since I had already awakened, I saw no reason to remain in bed any longer." he paused for a moment, as he came to stand behind McCoy's chair, placing his hands on his shoulders, much like McCoy had done to im earlier. Peering over the top of his head, he half asked, half stated, "we have done it?" McCoy leaned back, tipping his head up to look into the dark eyes of the Vulcan, "yes, we did ... but how did you know? You haven't looked at the data yet." "Let's just say that I need to teach you a few things about shielding your thoughts." There was a touch of humor in his words, and a slight smile on his lips as he lightly touched the meld points on McCoy's face ... nothing intrusive, but suddenly McCoy new why Spock had awakened. Reaching up to cover Spock's hand with his own, he turned his head, breaking their light bond, and kissed the palm. "Sorry, Spock ... didn't mean to wake you." "No need to apologize," he said, as he bent down to place his lips where his hand had been. After a brief but intense kiss, he pulled away ... this was not the time or place ... the celebration would have to wait until the cure was synthesized and distributed ... not a moment sooner. "Come, lets review the data while the test finishes its run. I want to make doubly sure that we have not missed anything." "Of course," McCoy said, as he turned back to the computer screen in front of him, and brought up all the pertinent data. Spock pulled a chair up close, and the two examined every aspect of the test for the slightest flaw, but found none. When they were certain of their results, they notified the other scientists and doctors that a cure had been found, and the production of the serum was underway ... hopefully, it would be in time to help everyone. Sadly, nearly half of the scientists at the conference died before they knew what had hit them ... but since the attack, which resulted in a planet-wide epidemic, only twenty-five of the remaining five-hundred scientists had died, and even fewer of the general population. The problem was the nearly three-thousand who were ill, and getting worse. Luckily for all involved, Carstair III was a major scientific community ... the lab facilities were excellent, and numerous ... there were scientific teams all over the planet currently synthesizing the cure, and distribution would commence almost immediately. The crisis was nearly over. McCoy sat back, arching his lower back to relieve the strain ... he had spent far too much time hunched over the keyboard, typing up the report he would be submitting to Starfleet Medical. Of course, he could have waited until he was back onboard the ENTERPRISE, but he wanted to get it done, while everything was still fresh in his mind. Besides, this gave him something to do while he waited for Spock to finish up synthesizing his last batch of serum. They had had one minor setback ... they had discovered quite by accident that using the cure as a inoculation was contraindicated, and in no time, Spock had devised a variation of the serum that could be used to inoculate those who were not infected, without the side effects that were almost as bad as the illness itself. By morning, everyone on the planet would be inoculated with the cure or the preventative serum. The last twenty hours had been rough, but they had not lost any more patients ... for that alone, McCoy was grateful. He put the finishing touches on his report, then saved it to a disk. As he finished, he looked up and his eyes met Spock's across the room. McCoy smiled, and was pleased to see the answering smile in the eyes of his Vulcan companion ... they had accomplished a great deal here, and it felt good to know they had accomplished it together. --- By unspoken agreement, they had returned to their assigned quarters to shower and change ... the need to remove the day's stress and fatigue foremost in their minds, yet the desire to celebrate their success was not buried too deeply. The suite of rooms they had been given was spacious ... a common room, two bedrooms and of course, two baths. McCoy stripped down, heading for the shower, when he turned, saying," Spock ... care to join me?" Spock raised his brow, the only indication of his shock, as he said with a touch of mischievousness, "Leonard, you know I prefer sonics over water. It is highly illogical to waste so much water for the purpose of cleansing ones body, when sonics are much more effective and sanitary." Since they had been here, they had only used one of the bedrooms (even when they were here alone, as they had been since the crisis started), yet they had maintained the use of separate baths ... his preference for sonics was real enough, as was Leonard's preference for water showers. "Ah, but Spock, my love ... sonics are not as much fun," and with a wink he made his way into the bathroom. As the door closed behind him, he called out, "well, love ... you know where I am if you should change your mind." As the water started, Spock stripped out of his own clothes in preparation for his sonic shower, but he hesitated, a sudden image of Leonard, covering his body with lather, popped into his mind. The image was very vivid, and he found himself becoming aroused. Allowing his curiosity to overcome his prudence, he accepted the offer. He made his way into the steam-filled room, and opened the door to the shower stall just enough to slip in behind Leonard. The water was quite hot, which felt amazingly good to Spock. He wondered briefly how McCoy was able to stand it quite so hot, but his question was stopped before he had a chance to ask it as McCoy turned and kissed him passionately. They were pressed, hard flesh to hard flesh ... with the needles of hot water pounding into his shoulders, and back, and Leonard's hands sliding down his chest to pinch his nipples, he became fully aroused. Grinding his hips into Leonard's erection, he touched the meld points ... as the bond they had forged opened, their arousal increased ten-fold, and Leonard gasped out at the intensity of it. Spock moved his free hand down Leonard's body ... lightly flicking his thumb across one taut nipple as he passed it, then making his way to the hard erection. Slick with soap, he started to stroke it ... slowly at first, from base to tip. With each stroke, he could feel it stiffen and jump, the creamy fluid leaking from the tip. He shifted slightly, to allow the water to wash the soap away, as he sent a message to McCoy through the link before releasing the meld point. The continued physical contact prevented the bond from dissolving completely, yet it was diminished ... for that, McCoy was grateful, for he did not think he could last long once Spock's lips touched his flesh, even without the added stimulation of feeling Spock's arousal through the bond. And he was right ... he exploded as the hot mouth took him in, sucking hungrily. Spock was a natural, for he could sense exactly what his partner needed, and was willing to try anything. As McCoy's erection faded, Spock stood once more, still fully erect. McCoy took him in hand, and began to stroke ... giving special attention to the double ridge. When he felt that Spock was about to loose what little control he still had, he knew it was his turn to kneel and suck. McCoy was no novice when it came to giving and receiving blowjobs, yet was still surprised every time he took the Vulcan into his mouth. The heat, and taste were quite different than a human ... and the exotic nature of the double ridge added to the unusual experience. He had learned that Spock liked it when he swirled his tongue around the head while firmly grasping the base with his hand. He could feel Spock holding back, and decided to add another stimulus to see how he would react. He slipped his other hand between Spock's legs, gently massaging the heavy ball sac as he maneuvered his fingers between the cheeks, searching for the puckered opening. Spock shifter his weight, allowing Leonard's finger to find the opening, and slide in to the second knuckle. A loud moan escaped the Vulcan's lips, as he thrust into the doctors eager mouth. Spent, Spock joined Leonard on his knees, as the water continued to flow over them. "You liked that, Spock?" "Yes, Leonard ... very much." He reached over to brush the hair out of Leonard's eyes, as he asked, "am I correct in assuming that you have plans to explore that particular part of my anatomy further?" "Oh boy, do I have plans ...and I certainly hope you'll be willing to do a bit of exploration yourself," he said with a grin, then sobered slightly, as he continued, "but first, let's get washed up and out of here ... I don't know about you, but I'm famished!" As he made to stand up, his stomach rumbled, which served to emphasize his comments quite eloquently. Once again raising his eyebrow, Spock could only comment, "by all means, let us get some dinner," and as he himself stood, he added, "after all, I think we will be expending a great deal of energy, and do not want to overexert ourselves." "Well said, Spock." and as the water washed away the last of the days exertions, the comm panel in the outer room continued to blink, telling them they had a message waiting. --- The ENTERPRISE returned to Carstair III, pleased with their success against the raiding parties that were harassing Altramin IV. Luckily for all involved, theywere not an organized group, and were easily dealt with. Kirk hoped that would of the quick success would spread, discouraging others from trying the same thing. He was also pleased to hear that a cure had been found for the biological weapon that had been used on Carstair III ... he would be very happy to get his doctor and science officer back aboard, where they belonged. As they achieved orbit, he asked Uhura to open a channel to the medical complex where he had last spoken to them, but was told that they had returned to their assigned quarters some time ago ... most likely to get some rest. The technician on duty gave them the communication code for the suite of rooms, and Uhura placed the call. When there was no answer, he left a message that they had returned. After signing off, his imagination got the better of him, and he became concerned. He then chided himself for his overreaction to the situation. They may snipe at each other, but they wouldn't actually harm one another ... would they? He had to convince himself that they would not. Chances are, they had gone to get a bite to eat ... When thirty minutes passed, and still no word, Kirk decided to investigate ... leaving the ENTERPRISE in Scotty's capable hands, he beamed down to the hotel complex, and found the proper room. There was an old-fashioned buzzer by the door, and Kirk pushed it once. As he stood there, waiting for an answer, he had an odd sensation in the pit of his stomach ... something was wrong. He was just about to push the buzzer again when the door opened, revealing Spock with a towel wrapped around his hips. His wet body glistening in the soft light from the hallway gave him a very sensual appearance. Kirk was instantly hard ... he had been attracted to the Vulcan since the moment they had met, but had been reluctant to pursue him. After all, he had told Bones that a shipboard romance wouldn't work, so he could hardly start up with someone else aboard ship so soon after their breakup. But, damn ... maybe they could be discreet about it, and Bones would never find out. "Captain ... what a surprise," Spock said, as he picked up a second towel, and started to dry his hair. "When did the ENTERPRISE return?" "About forty minutes ago ... I called, but you must not have been in yet." Kirk started to look around the room, when he spotted the blinking light on the computer terminal, he pointed, adding, "it's not like you to forget to check your messages when you get in." In fact, Kirk didn't know if Spock was the type to check messages the instant he got home or not, but it was a good guess that he was. Spock looked in the direction of the terminal, and realized the call must have come in while he and Leonard had been occupied ... he never heard the chime. He was about to respond, when Leonard came out of the bath, terry robe loosely wrapped around his wiry frame, drying his hair with a towel. "Spock, let's order in ... I'm ..." he said nothing more, as he spotted Jim standing just inside the door. Seeing his two friends together like this, Jim Kirk realized that he had come to the wrong conclusion about them ... clearing his throat, he said, "excuse me, gentlemen ... I have obviously interrupted something here. I expect you both to return to the ENTERPRISE within the hour. We have orders to report to Starbase 173 in three days time, and will leave orbit as soon as you are both aboard." And with that, Jim kirk turned and stepped toward the sensor that would automatically open the door. McCoy opened his mouth to say something, but Spock stopped him with a gesture. When the captain was gone, he asked, "Leonard, is there some reason why the captain would be upset about seeing us together?" "Possibly ... you see ... Jim and I have a past ... we were lovers long before he was a captain, or I was his chief medical officer." He paused, and went over to the sofa and sat, patting the space next to him in invitation for Spock to join him. "After Jim got command of the ENTERPRISE, we ran into each other, and renewed our relationship. Shortly after that, I was assigned as CMO. At first, we thought we could continue the relationship ... just keep it discreet ..." Spock understood ... he had been in a similar relationship with Captain Pike, and it had been difficult at times. "I believe I understand. Tell me, how long ago did this relationship come to an end?" "Exactly one month after I came on board. I just couldn't deal with all the flirtation. Once I made my decision, I never looked back." Seeing understanding in Spock's eyes, he went on, "of course, I've also seen the way he looks at you ... and I knew that if I didn't make a move, he would, eventually ... I don't think I could have stayed with the ship if he had beaten me to you." "Fascinating," was the only reply Spock was capable of making. He had not been aware of the captain and Leonard's relationship, nor had he been aware of Jim's interest in him ... but suddenly, an image flashed into his mind, and his brow rose as he said, "tell me, Leonard ... do you think Jim would be interested in a ...three-way?" The smile that lit Leonard's face was answer enough, but to be on the safe side, he said, "damn straight, he would ... let's get dressed, and we can invite him to join us for dinner ... then for dessert ..." --- The End
