The BLTS Archive - Montgomery's Shock: Mr. Scott, from J.T. Kirk Seventh in the Edge of Forever series by S.R. Benjamin (phil@temples.com) --- Transmission to Mr. M. Scott, Acting Chief Engineer, U.S.S. Loch Lomond: Dear Mr. Scott: I am in receipt of your transfer requesting reinstatement as Chief Engineer, U.S.S. Enterprise. Orders have been cut and are enroute to you via Starbase 19. The long-range shuttle U.S.S. Daystrom will rendezvous with Excelsior, time to be established by the Starbase 19 transmission. We will meet the Daystrom in the Arcturian system to effect your reinstatement. And Scotty-welcome home. J.T. Kirk Captain U.S.S. Enterprise --- "That should be sufficient," the transmission's composer sighed, setting aside the data padd. "It is factual, but nonetheless contains an element of reunion," his bedmate, sitting next to him, replied. A serious expression crossing his face, Kirk said thoughtfully, "It reminds me of us." "How so, Jim?" the Vulcan asked softly, turning against the pillow to reach an arm around the preoccupied human's shoulders. Kirk absently grasped Spock's free hand in his. "You know. We were so evasive with each other, at first. Hell, you put in for a transfer yourself, when we got back from New York City. I could have ended up chasing you halfway across the galaxy. Or losing you. I'm fully aware that the only reason Scotty's coming back is Uhura, and maybe McCoy." "I believe the important detail is that Mr. Scott has indeed chosen to return, whatever the mechanism. As for me, Jim, you only 'chased me,' as you put it, one single cabin down Officer's Row." Kirk regarded Spock intently, before closing his eyes to press a kiss onto the Vulcan's nearest shoulder, close to the neck. He was rewarded with a tightening of the arm about him, and a soft sigh of contentment. "Jim. You are still concerned that we might have separated from each other." "I guess I am. It was so close, Spock." "No, Th'y'la, it was not. Even if I had left, your presence would have brought me home, just like Mr. Scott." A chuckle shook the golden form, as the tawny head rose, sporting a smile. "Spock, Scotty didn't come back because of me. He left because of me... of us." "He left because he was retreating from something else that wore our faces. As would I have been. He is returning because he wishes to live with what is real, and not to be governed by ghosts. As for myself," and a hand reached around Kirk's other shoulder, as the Vulcan drew him into a heated embrace, "I would have run from an impropriety, from transgressing against my upbringing. But I would have concomitantly parted from my most meaningful destiny. I could not have held that course for long. Nor could you. That is why we are here." "You sound so sure," Kirk observed when he could breathe again. "I am, of course, scientifically trained and capable of accurate assessments--" Kirk cut him off. "You were as concerned as me, but you'll never admit it. Wise ass," he chuckled. After the obligatory raised eyebrow, a wet kiss graced the captain's cheek, lips trailed down his jaw. Kirk leaned forward into it, reached into that night-deep hair at the Vulcan's nape, drew that beloved face toward him into a kiss that left both gazing intently and hungrily at each other. They shifted down to recline on the bed. Sometime after, the timer automatically dimmed the cabin illumination for late ship's night. "It'll be good to get my crew complement back together. But do you know what's just as important?" "What, Th'y'la?" came a rather hoarse, distracted response. "You. Having you. Having your wise words, and your wise eyes, and your wise lips, and your wise chest?" The Vulcan sighed in pleasure as a finger found its way into sensitive heat, promising more soon. "And your wise ass," a muffled voice concluded as strong hands helped Spock turn onto his back for another night of lovemaking. The meaningful communication passing between the two was wordless, the sighed and tactile language of lovers, spelled in caresses, counted in gasps. It continued until the inspired dance was broken by Kirk's rich voice and Spock's deep baritone, as Spock entered, was welcomed within. "Ahhh, this is home," and "welcome home," sighed in union while hearts moved to return, as had bodies, home at last. --- The End
